Wow! Yeah, I think the Mil-spec is a bit OTT..... ...says the man who got Aeronautical/Mil-spec TZL wire for the engine bay due to thinking a maximum temperature rating of 105°C was a bit low for running next to the engine. :)

    Few O1E Questions

See Audi 01E Quattro Transmission for more details of where the code is but: Transmission code letters and serial number are located on bottom of transmission differential next to bottom cover bolt. (on the LHS)

    Few O1E Questions

Hi Henk, Make sure you cover the breather (little plastic plug on top) and avoid the seals and you should be fine. Yes, Its got a choice of mountings but I think most just mounted it off the two side mounts towards the rear. Yes some came with oil coolers but you need the pump (AFAICT only...

    Darrin's MMR BOSS based GT40

Looking nice. Are you going to funnel the air into the rad or block off the end for some brake coolers like the originals?

    Gallardo Mesh

Did you consider making a hatch in the bulkhead (like the GT40) to allow access to the front of the engine?

    Renato's GT40 MkI Coyote

Curious if going with the single bottom mount why you didn't use the mounting holes on the bottom of the box?

    Battery location

Yep marketing at work! I was thinking about all sorts of ways to try and move stuff around and now I'm not going to bother. :) As for Ah and I presume you mean CCA not CCR it depends on your starter (mine is 2kw so needs a CA of 150A) but I figured about 40-60Ah and I wouldn't worry overly much...

    Gallardo Mesh

Hi Mish. If you have the photo already on a picture hosting site (flickr, picasa/google) then just grab the "link" and press the little postcard image in the header and then insert the link or just paste. Eg from flickr if you look on the bottom right of the screen and there is a right...

    GT-Forte GTs40 build

Had a day off work today so spent pretty much the day on the car. First thing was a couple of panels, then in with the engine again so I could sort out the mounting brackets. It took me hours to get it in, now I've raised the car up I don't have enough height on the engine crane to get it over...

    "Vigilante 6.0 Vengeance" project

Yes, that's it. Originally designed for the Lexus LS400 but used in the Toyota Soarer as well. I have no idea about the 2JZ mounting but if it's anything like the 1UZ then this might be useful to you - Toyota 1UZ-FE Engine to Audi 012 Transmission (Porsche G86) Adapter Drawings. | 1TG - Design...

    "Vigilante 6.0 Vengeance" project

I know what it is, I was just suggesting the 4.0 V8 1UZ-FE, instead. 260-290hp stock (depending on year), ~550hp with nothing more than a bit of boost (twin turbo suggested for low lag but you could go single turbo).

    Battery location

Something worth pointing out at this point and a miss-assumption I made was that the 'ideal' is a 50:50 weight distribution. Not I found out later true, apparently a RWD car with 50:50 weight distribution will under-steer on corner entry. For this reason race cars run between 40:60 and 35:65...

    GT40 in a single garage?

I'm building mine in a single garage, my garage is 2m59 at it's narrowest... Having actually now tried fitting the doors I'm seriously contemplating fitting a wide ~41in high door in the outside wall of the garage...

    Riveting Ali panels to tube

I did careful measuring in some places and drawing lines above and below the tube then drilling on the centreline. But I thought afterwards that creating a U shaped piece like this Would make life much easier.

    Advice on fusible link

As you say most don't protect the alternator in kit cars but I'd go with what the OEM's do and protect it with at least a fusible link. If you make the fusible link separate from the rest of the power then you will be able to still drive it until the battery runs flat (just make sure you...
