    Collins' Custom GT40 MK1 Build

Looks good so far. I shall be watching with interest.

Why do some car have different levels to there floor

Because the owners are too tall, even with sitting on the floor there isn't enough head height so they drop the floor by welding in a stepped floor to the chassis like this:

    Automotive connectors

That's a nice connector Bill but doesn't seem (commonly certainly) available outside the US. :(

    Automotive connectors

The Weatherpack are very similar to the AMP 'Superseal' ones. My issue with those is the number of pins as they seem to max out at 6 , I'm looking for ones with more connectors. Those are AMP 'Superseal' ones (or copies), again they max out at 6 pins. The 6.3mm ones or the Mate-N-Lock? (I'm...

    Automotive connectors

What do other people use for the interior connectors (eg between main loom and sub-looms for dash/instruments/switches etc)? I was thinking the TYCO Mate-N-Lok, Available in 20A per pin, 10A per pin and 5A per pin versions. 5A Mini Mate-N-Lok - Up to 15 way - Picture and details from Mini...

    Andrew's GT Forte build.

Hurrah! Sitting in it making V8 noises is obligatory!

    GT-Forte GTs40 build

Should do another update! :) Once more not too much change, slowly but surely getting there though. So as per my last update needed to add in some extra fibreglass to the inside at the bottom... Done! So re-cut the holes to give the RHS bottom hinge Which meant then I could...

Even with the extended swingarm probably be a tiny bit wheelie prone. Like this one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wS8JTmHJpfc

    Residual Valves Question

It's the location of the master cylinder and you need them if the master cylinder is lower than the calipers.

how much suspension travel for the rear

I've always aimed for 25%-30% static sag so with 5in travel about 1.25in-1.5in 'drop'

    Mystery Front Uprights

Look identical to Granada Mk2 or Cortina eg these are mine AFAICT the only difference between Granada and Cortina is the geometry.

Pulled apart my fuel tank and...WOW

To be fair to all the manufacturers proper foam or explosafe is bloody expensive. Eg Explosafe Fuel Baffle System roughly £5 per litre. Explosafe is especially expensive considering as it's nothing more than aluminium foil with some special cuts in it. £1 for materials, 95p processing, £46...

James' GT-Forté scratch build GT40 MkI

Well the standard is to have the seatbelts off the 'front' of the bar but if you want them lower could always run them off the very bottom. Would mean the belts would pass 'through' the bulkhead and having to 'box' in round them but would be doable.

James' GT-Forté scratch build GT40 MkI

D'Oh! Of course, perfectly visible from the picture! :) I think most GT40's run them parallel to the rear bulkhead which would be a bit more laid back. All depends on if you've got enough head room or not though. IIRC you don't yet have bodywork but you can pretty much take the top of the roll...

James' GT-Forté scratch build GT40 MkI

I had the same issue with the Inatrim GT40 seats. I found in my case the 'wings' dug into my shoulder blades. Very much a personal preference thing though as Jayson tried and he was fine with them. Looking at the specs they're pretty much the same width as their 'GT40' seats but a bit higher...

Pulled apart my fuel tank and...WOW

Ouch. Getting trickier not to get fuel with ethanol added as well. Especially now the rules have changed regarding having to notify consumers... I decided that it was just not worth it to have foam unless I was racing.

    GT-Forte GTs40 build

Started on proper door hinges. RHS top They'll be bolted in (with some load spreaders behind) and I'll fibreglass the space in between the plate and the door so they sit properly flat. I'll also need to add some extra fibreglass to the inside at the bottom. The door hinge area wasn't flat...

    GT-Forte GTs40 build

Minor update (sorry didn't take pictures due to a lack of charge). Got through an order of laser cut bits, I now have exhaust manifold flanges, "fuel cell" blanking plates[0] and most importantly door hinge bracket adjusters. So I took the RHS sill top off, drilled for the bottom mounting...

    GT-Forte GTs40 build

Indeed, 400hp@6500 is 438Nm, about bang on for the specified limit for the gearbox (450Nm). That's pretty high for NA though. Plan is not to even open it up (apart from cam covers and maybe sump), get it on the road first then worry about tuning. Probably get cams (and springs), maybe some port...
