    Starter Problems Still

Got the correct starter today but it doesn't fit into the hole in the block plate. The diameter of the lip in the face of the starter is larger than the diameter of the hole in the block plate. So, do I have to get a grinder up in there and open up the stupid hole? Or can I grind the lip off...

    Two Starters - Both Failed

Thanks for all your help Randy. I was surprised to find the internals so wasted. Ecen a horseshoe shaped clamp fell out when we opened it up. At least this experience will help others to avoid making the mistake I did.

    Two Starters - Both Failed

We discovered the cause today. When I changed the flywheel from 157 to 164, I didn't know I had to change the starter as well. I ordered the correct starter today

    RCR #010 Build Progress

Found the problem today. I have a 164-tooth flywheel and the starters are for a 157-tooth flywheel From the web: We have all seen the references such as “this starter fits manual transmissions, and that starter fits automatic transmissions” or “auto starters fit T-5 transmissions” etc...

    RCR #010 Build Progress

I disassembled the first starter today and found this: The lever that pushes the starter gear into the flywheel. As you can see, it's all shredded. What could possibly cause this? he second stater will likely be the same since it's doing the same thing

CS is suing Factory Five for trade dress infringement (Type 65 Coupe). They named FFcbra.com also because they say they are "an agent of Factory Five". It's a real mess

    RCR #010 Build Progress

The starter spins but doesn't engage. The internals are shot. This is #2. Sadly this project has lost all its fun. Now it's just a headache that won't go away

    RCR #010 Build Progress

Thanks Kalun. Some friends have suggested that the momentary pushbutton start switch may be hanging up internally, causing the starter to stay engaged. With a ZF setup, I can't see inside to see what's going on. In any case, I will replace the cheap pushbutton switch with a heavy duttu...

    RCR #010 Build Progress

The first was a Ford Racing mini-starter. The second was a PMGR starter from PA Performance. It came with a life time warranty. Some others feel the starter is staying engaged after it starts, resulting in the gear reduction burning up.

    RCR #010 Build Progress

Thanks Jim I am using a PMGR style starter. I have the B+ cable going from the battery to the large terminal on the starter solenoid. I have a small wire going from the remote starter solenoid to the small terminal on the starter solenoid

    Two Starters - Both Failed

Just installed a brand new starter. Good for about 5 starts. Now it's doing the same thing as the first. Just spins. I have had it with this car!!!! Now I have to figure out how the hell I'm going to push the damn thing uphill into my garage.
