New engine but where to start...

Here are links to Two of the best oil pan provides for our hobby. Aviaid made the originals back in the day. Armando was a welder for them and started his own business. I use one of Armando's on my 289 Cobra. They are clones of the originals. http://aviaid.com/ http://aroilpans.com/

    Weber Help Please !

I found when I was setting mine up initially, that Webers (or any carburetor for that matter) will pop back through the stacks when opening the throttles if they are LEAN and pop in the exhaust if its RICH. 70 F10's seem a little rich for this size engine, what idle air bleed is being used. The...

    Ignition Issue

Generally the tach needle jumping is an indication of the PRIMARY SIDE side of the ignitiion being faulty. This would include the primary side of the coil, its connections, the field coil pickup inside the distributor, the air gap between the reluctor and field coil inside the distributor and...

Roush 427IR: Camshaft & Distributor Gears FAILURE

You can see on the cam journal where "bits of metal" were in the oil, some light scoring has occured. The engine needs to come apart to clean all the galleys. You will find similar marks on the crank journals. Pull it completely apart to save yourself some grief later.

    Ignition Issue

Michael: Much blame is put on MSD boxes that is unwarranted. They do have two enemies: Vibration & Excessive Heat. They do not generally pick and chose random cylinders to misfire. In your situation be sure the MSD box is electrically grounded AND mounted on rubber isolators to minimize...

    WEBER 48 IDA quality issue

In an effort to locate Italian made Webers, short of finding an NOS set and paying a ransom you can buy used set and can learn a lot while rebuilding them and make some useful small modifications during the rebuild. When I was on the hunt for mine a few years ago, I ended up getting them from 3...

Best roller rockers and mounts ?

If the cam is of very high lift, it could be pivoting the Rocker Arms to the point they are contacting the studs at full lift, thus forcing the stud to attempt to flex. Or if the studs are poorly designed they could become fatigued and snap at the point where the threads join the unthreaded...

    V belt setup

The double groove on the A/C was not designed to drive the compressor alone. One of the grooves had a belt going to either a P/S pump or more likely a Smog pump.

    Full Radius Air Horns

Has anyone investigated and found a source for Full Radius Air Horns for the 48 IDA carbs? I need some that are approx 1.5" tall to fit inside an Air Filter element. ITG has told me they do not offer them. There seems to be some available, but none that I have found have the sleeve that slides...

Cylinder Head Gasket ..anyone experience with copper ?

With Edelbrock aluminum heads (?) use a gasket with a preflattened Firing ring. Felpro 1011-2 is one, I'm sure there are others. Without the pre flattened ring the Aluminum head is brinelled around the combustion chamber and the stainless sealing ring will create an indention in the head...

    Distributor cap

I am using a NOS Ford (not MSD) distributor with (Female Towers) and a cable driven distributor. I am attempting to find a high quality BLACK cap with brass contacts and with the circular ridges near the contacts that prevents electrical flashover between the poles. Anybody know a specific brand?
