    Le Mans camshaft

Where is a good source for a Lemans spec flat tappet cam? There have been a very few show up on EBAY. Are any there other reliable sources?

Special Weber needle valve -non sequitur

It is the diameter in mm of the internal (hole) opening that the needle closes upon. To get a better idea look through the opening (threaded end) of a Needle/Seat assy. The larger hole will definately flow more fuel but cannot be controlled as accurately. From what I have been able to decern...

Special Weber needle valve -non sequitur

John I think it was me that initiated the thread you are refering to. I have been doing a lot of research on the topic of fuel pressure and needle / seat design etc. The 3.3 glass ball valve is designed for hard running VW drag engines that are going to require a lot of fuel. A 3.3 valve in...

    Fuel pressure & supply

Thanks for responses. I welcome others. This can benefit many of us. I have been told that the individial who was responsible for their design had died hence the company closed. However I have no hard firm evidence of this and have seen them being sold for SU carbs (maybe knockoffs). There also...

    Le Mans camshaft

Wouldn't the cylinder pressure be bled off by the duration? Consequently wouldn't that cam, (Lemans) require or be better suited to a higher static compression than 10:1?

    Fuel pressure & supply

There is some controversy over the need for relatively low fuel pressure in the Webers (2.5#-3#). Is this caused by the inability for the needle/seat fuel valve to control pressures above this? Are the current valves suspect/faulty? Several years ago a company (D & G valve) made a product called...

    IDA's difference???

There was also a version of the IDA the had a large raised "W" and the word "Italy" cast on the float bowl. It did not say "Made in Italy", I think there was a time some of the Weber product was being done in Brazil, not sure if the IDA was part of that. The Brass squirters were in the IDAs...

    Weber Venturis - comments?

There are a couple of individuals in the VW vendor crowd that specifically make venturis for IDAs. If you must buy OEM Weber, the prices are a little steep near $39.00+ per copy. Enlarging smaller ones in a lathe is certainly an option, but how is the correct & scientific shape of the radius at...

    Cooling System - Excess Pressure

The head gaskets on the LH bank have to have the gasket inverted to force the water through the engine & heads correctly. I use the Fel Pro 1011-2 and it is a single gasket with the word "Front": stamped on one end (front) end when installed on one bank. It is easy to overlook inverting this on...

Those of you with IDA's, is it manditory to have the 3rd transition hole to make the car drivable? (Assuming the jetting package is correct). Thanks Rick

Put some lubricant such as Anti Sieze or White lithium grease on the accelerator pump cams. Then lubricate the pump arm pivots too (Oil for them).

    Ignition Timing

Along with this be sure you don't short change yourself on fuel quality. I have seen a very high end SCCA Datsun 510 that had the ring lands cracked and broked from detonation and preignition caused by using substandard fuels and lower than normal rpms. This was with crank fired and locked...

CroMo does not specifically indicate they are hardened, just a different material, they must be hardened and heat treated to prevent a repeat incident.
