    Tornado GT40 in Texas

Mike, Good observation. I originally had 50 mm bellmouths on the throttles. That is what is shown in the photos. I switched them out for 35 mm bellmouths because the 50s wouldn't clear at all. Now, it appears that number 8 (the farthest back on the left) is the only one that might just...

    Tornado GT40 in Texas

Mike, Good catch. I originally had 50 mm bellmouths on the throttles. The photo shows the 50 mm bellmouths. I switched them out for 35 mm bellmouths because the 50s wouldn't clear at all with the filters on. Although I haven't installed the rear glass yet, it appears that number 8 (the...

    New/Old RCR Build...

Kim, I just went through the same thing. The plate between the engine and the bellhousing needs to cover the entire bellhousing area including the bottom. Further, there should be two dowel pins that locate the plate while you put the bellhousing to the engine and that also properly aligns...

    Tornado GT40 in Texas

John, Thanks for the question. Actually, I'm almost through. I have been devoting all my spare time to building instead of updating my build log. I plan to do that when I get through. I'm trying to make an April drive day. I have a lot of interesting things to report, but no time to do so...

    Winged Dzus fasteners

Mitch, That is a very good solution. I should have tried that. I have some 3M 08115 epoxy that body shops use as a replacement for welding. It is slightly stronger in shear than the Loctite, but comes in a larger dispenser. I have some spare wings and it sounds like Adrian will have a bunch...

    Winged Dzus fasteners

Mike, I hope you are better at silver soldering than I was. See if you can find a micro laser welder. I didn't have to rechrome. I didn't do anything to them after welding. -Bob Woods Tornado GT40 in Texas

    Winged Dzus fasteners

Adrian, I had several laser cut out of stainless steel and then we used a laser welder to attach them to the Dzus fasteners. I have measured a winged Dzus on Randy's original GT40, and Bob Putnam's drawing is very close to what I measured but my measured dimensions were slightly larger. I...

    Wiring Connectors - Need Recommentation

I agree with Scott. I buy them from Mouser Electronics and TTI Inc. They are listed under T E Connectivity. Another source is WireCare. You want the DM and DTM series. -Bob Woods Tornado GT40 in Texas

    Wiring Connectors - Need Recommentation

I agree but you need to buy the crimper. There are two sizes of connectors, 16 and 20. Nominally they are the size of wires for them. The same crimper will do both. Bob Woods Tornado GT40 in Texas

Is gt40's important to you - let us know your thoughts

I read it daily. I don't read the jokes or paddock or SLC. I haven't updated my build log because I'm busy trying to build the car with every spare time I have. Sorry. I'll update soon. Bob Woods Tornado GT40 in Texas

    Something is missing

Mike, I meant the length of the headers from the engine to the collectors. You would want equal length but that might be hard. How close did you get? Bob Woods

    Something is missing

Mike, I thought that one reason you switched to the SBF was for that wonderful unique sound. Are you happy with the sound quality? Can you tell me the length of each pipe? Bob Woods

    Mitch Krause's RCR GT40 Build

Mitch, Yes, I gave Randy some. I have some more. I don't think epoxy will work. I tried silver solder but my coil was too thick. I think they make a smaller diameter silver solder. Of course the best is a precise micro welder such as a laser welder like I used. It makes a very strong bond...

    Mitch Krause's RCR GT40 Build

Mitch, I like what you did with the Dzus fasteners in terms of clocking. I don't know why they couldn't have made the slot align with the rivets, but they are slightly off. you got your slots in line with the car. Well done! I did the same thing. In addition to aligning the slots, I fabricated...

Help! Intake manifold not fitting well

Dave, I had to put on two intake gaskets to get a port match, but I don't think I had a problem with angle mismatch. I have a Dart SBF block, Pro-Topline (Racing Head Service Pro Action), and the Borla eight stack fuel injection. -Bob Woods Tornado GT40 in Texas

    Something is missing

Mike, I will run out of gears too. According to theory and my estimated horsepower, I should be able to hit 216 mph; however, at 7,000 rpm I will be at 190 mph... like I will ever drive that fast! But, more importantly, at 60 mph I will be turning 2100 rpm. -Bob Woods

    Tornado GT40 in Texas

Dave, thanks for your comments. You brought up some good points and since I haven't driven it yet, some are still to be determined. On my Tornado tanks, there is a partition at the rear of the tank that is foam filled. The fuel level gauge is in front of that partition and there is no foam...
