Chuck, I was not concerned about advising you, but more so for the general readership!

Note of caution with stainless steel fasteners. The galling potential is high with stainless bolt and nut. And if that happens, then you don't need to worry about a nyloc nut!. Actually Milk of Magnesia is a very effective anti-galling solution

Congrats from another RCR D Type anticipator. What else should we call ourselves who have entered the gestation period for a D??

Doug, do not underestimate the complexity of the whole undertaking on this rear opening!

Magnificent work! Having inspected several originals in anticipation of my own D Replica from RCR, I truly appreciate the authenticity you are bringing to yours!

Very ambitious, but you guys always come thru! I'll have to forego the opening rear bodywork.

But you should check with Steve. My recollection is that, at least on the prototype, the engine was canted a few degrees. Not as far as the originals at 8.5 degrees. But a subsequent lowering of the top of the driver footbox by RCR may have addressed the carb clearance.

Great work! Unfortunately I don't have the vertical style oil filter mount on the '83 XK6 4.2.

It is my understanding that the RCR use of the thicker aluminum for the tub renders it strong enough to eliminate the square structural tubing that Jaguar used in the transmission tunnel to connect the front and rear subframe. The RCR tunnel was designed large enough to accommodate an automatic...

Some day I will be able to apply these learnings to completion of my RCR D.

Would it make more sense to use 4 studs on the bellhousing, with some taper on the ends, to facilitate easing the transmission into place? I used temporary studs as alignment pins when adding the trans just on the run stand.

I will be making more compromises to affordability on my D. The 4.2 I am using is from an '83 XJ6, and came with the OEM oil cooler. Not nearly as "cool" as the aircraft style, but similar height and width. Only half as thick. I took it to Steve as he was doing the aluminum panel work to...

Are you planning on an oil cooler? Wondering if that facilitates remote oil filter.

Very valuable insights. What do you think about the shifter position? Is it the closed bottom to the drive tunnel that prevents tipping the engine/trans assembly? Would a strategically placed access port there help?
