Some more progress today. I'm sure loads of you will experience the same thing. If you had more space, and lots of spare nuts, bolts and raw materials, each job would take 1/5th the time. So it's taken me a week to get the rotisserie attached to either end of the car but now it's done. Next...

I hope I have measured correctly. I balanced my seats on top of cardboard boxes. Back rod is 27.5cm from bulkhead, and front rod was 60cm (measured to the back edge of the rods). Will let you know if I run into problems.

Now the bars are in I can flip the car and get the bottom panel on. Advantage of leaving the bottom off is being able to get into hard areas easier. Disadvantage is the car gets to heavy to turnover without help. As a result built half the car rotisserie tonight. Hope yo get the other half done...

Major developments over the weekend. A milestone even though it doesn't look much. A friend came over with a welder and we welded 4 bars in across the chasis to give extra strength for the seats to bolt to.

Two top coats done today. The PIR Top Coat seems slightly harder to get on consistently than the POR15. However, still think its going to look good for the engine bay. Lots of protection, as that's now 4 coats.

Two layers of paint on the panels this afternoon. Like black glass! Top coat tomorrow morning.

Took advantage of the heat today. I'm going to paint the engine bay panels before they are attached to the chassis. Etched the aluminium, metal cleaner done and metal prep primer done. Leaving them to dry for a few days.

Yes. I was thinking of a similar thing. My seats have sliders, so was thinking of welding bolts pointing up to the cross bars and bolting the seats down to them with the nuts on top. Just need to see if I can get to the nuts if I do that.

Talked to Mike about that. Apparently he used to put them in, but realised theres enough strength without them. However I'm planning on putting some in as don't fancy not having them. H

Thanks for the drawing, very useful. I assume that you bolted the two bolts on the gear lever body through on to the diagonal chasis bar not just to the aluminium panel? H

Great. That would be really useful. H

Also started clamping where the peddle box might go, to work out how pedals fit round the steering column. Not sure yet.

Almost finished drilling holes in panels to right of drivers seat. Now trying to work out where the gear leaver bolts on. Hard to know when I dont have the dash or the seat bolted in.

Progress last night. Seem to be doing several things at the same time. Decided to bolt the lower link arms to the chasis before sealing and riveting the panels that go above them. For people in the UK, found Screwfix do M12 steel washers that work well on linkages.

Thanks guys. Think I will continue using the Avinox BE61 rivets. Will consider the distance between them.

Got an extra hour in the garage this afternoon. I wanted to kick start the new air compressor with the rivet gun. Never used either before. Had to admit, I was a little nervous starting the compressor for the first time. I got an SGS 24 litre direct drive. Connected the hoses and all worked...

Productive 2 hours on this rainy Saturday afternoon. Finished drilling all the holes in two panels and chasis. Ready for sealing and riveting at the next session.

Hi Don, Are you taking visitors over the next few weeks. Would love to come over, meet you and bring a tape measure to inspect where you have put things! Saturday or Sunday afternoons work best for me. H

Three new cheap tools that I can thoroughly recommend. A wolf craft 90 degree measure. Makes measuring holes a lot easier. A drill guide for stopping drill bits wondering. And Ruwag Turbo Metal drill bits. With a bit of oil on the end, drills through steel really easy.
