    Non-syncromesh with helical teeth?

Here is the breakdown of costs in my gearbox. Good usable core $2100. Limited slip(KAAZ unit) + labor to setup ring and pinion $2000. Dog0change conversion $4,000( each ratio is $890US and then dog rings/sliders and new selector shafts). I did the conversion myself, which is good that I learned...

    Non-syncromesh with helical teeth?

I did a lot of research before plunking down any $$$, and as far as I know, Albins is the only maker of dog change gears for a 930 gearbox. As far as thrush loads go,I am putting an honest 410hp to the ground in a 2100lb tube frame racer with slicks, running 25 min track sessions(sometimes back...

    Non-syncromesh with helical teeth?

Yup, Albins..............I did want straight cut gears at first. You know, I felt that for all the money I spent on regearing the box that I wanted everyone to hear/know how I spent my money!!! I, however caved in to reason when they(Albins) stressed that a low angle helical gear is actually...

    Biessman XLR-917

Jac, I thought the center drive take-off in a 917 engine is for the fan drive. The clutch and crank flange are still at the back of the engine.

    Biessman XLR-917

I understand that those isolators are for industrial applications (i.e. assembly line/ conveyor drive couplings ), but are they really rated for the torque, rpm, and harmonics associated with coupling internal combustion engines?

    Biessman XLR-917

I just have a hard time believing that simply coupling two engines together with two separate ECMs can run/last reliable for use on the track? I know this has been done in the past with drag cars and pulling tractors, but how can this be expected to last? Wouldn't the engine harmonics wreck...

    Kiwi scratchbuilt

On my 930 I ended up drilling for safety wire, same problem as you. I know I torqued the bolts with a torque wrench, but after a weekend of track use I would find them almost finger tight!!

    Scratchbuilt 'Kiwi 40' goes racing.

The problem with going to an even taller 1st is that I'm not sure you will have enough case clearance to fit. As it is with the ratio I have I needed to clearance the end of the case to fit the much larger drive gear. look in the pics, the stock 1st drive gear is actually smaller than the bronze...

    Scratchbuilt 'Kiwi 40' goes racing.

Russ, here are the ratios I speced out from Albins when I did the Dog-change conversion last season. Plug them into your spreadsheet with your tire size to see how they work for you. 1st=1.6 2nd=1.08 3rd=.8571 4th=.6875 These are working with the stock 4.22 final and 25.5in tall slicks. For me...

    rear suspension setup

It might help to understand this concept if you make a model out of welding rod or coathanger wire for the links and an "upright" out of cardboard or whatever. That way you can setup extreme amounts of caster and trailing link angles and watch the steering effects it causes as the wheels rise...

Rust now more expensive than Gold?

Seeing that half of the car( I guess it had/has an alum. body?) has disintegrated, and I am assuming the lake is fresh water, which side was likely to be down in the muck? Was the "good" side down and therefore protected? Or was the "bad" side down and rotted away due to contact with the muck and...

    G50 Trans Mods

I just wanted to add a point or two on the 930 box. To put the taller first in a little attention with a die grinder is needed to get some clearance between the case and the larger drive gear,no big deal really,I just wanted to give a heads up to whomever may do it. Then about second gear, I...

    Fiberglass for dummies.....I'm the dummy.

Are you extending a flat door skin or building up the door jamb area? For skins/panels I have done this to build up panel gaps with good results: 1. From the inside, grind down the glass back about 2in and tapered to a sharp edge. Then using the metal foil type HVAC duct tape, apply to edge to be...

    Anyone have a F5000 car?

Maybe a suggestion to perhaps find an outfit that rents an Indy car(be powered by a proper Cossie engine or converted to some other type) to try before you invest huge sums of time and money.Travel and track location should not be an issue here as it's easier to swallow even a couple thousand...

    Anyone have a F5000 car?

Cliff, Re: putting the ford stock block engine in an Indy tub and making it work correctly on track is not really as easy as it seems. A few points are: 1. The engine is a stressed member,so engineering/building an adapter/engine plate to take the loads should be done by someone with...
