    Carb choice

Im looking for a new carburetter to replace an old Holley vac sec. 600cfm #1850. i currently have a 300bhp 302 that is purely for the street use.It has big valve heads, 9:1 compression ratio and a street cam .I want a manual choke and something less than $400. It needs to be street driveable...

    Compression ratio

Julian I would suggest with 64cc heads, 9:1 may be on the optimstic side, but i dont know what pistons you have. I would certainly look at some aftermarket heads with smaller chambers, with either 58 or 54 cc chambers. With the dollar so weak against the pound there are some good bargains if...

    Compression ratio

Julian , What cylinder head chamber volume do you have ? With 58cc you will typically get around 9:1 i think with flat tops. To get 10:1 compression on standard rods, you will need to skim the heads and ensure the pistons are level with the deck height. I think i read that for every 5 cc...

    Head skimming compression question

Thanks for the feedback. I really want to avoid stripping the engine at this stage and was hoping to get some quick gains without internal engine surgery. I am using standard Cast pistons, and we can commonly use 97 octane gas here no problem. I know that decking the block would help optimise...

    Head skimming compression question

I have a desire for a higher compressioon ratio to make my cam (edelbrock performer rpm 7122) work a bit better. i only have standard flat top's giving me something like 8.8. - 9.0 :1 compression and i know i need around 10.5 :1to one to make them work well. The engine has lost a lot of torque...

    performer rpm camshaft question

performer rpm cam Biggest mistake i made was fitting this cam. Lost all bottom end torque. I was told by Pete Knight racing it only works with at least 10:1 compression. Mines going in the bin. I was advised to go for short duration, high lift for street use with 9:1 compression. I would...

Renault 21 Transaxle to Granada Hubs??

Tornado in Kidderminster will do a good job grafting the two driveshafts together, provided you have renault and granada shafts. Mine were sleeved and have lasted well

    rebore 302

Thanks for the input guys. I must admit i am a little confused as some say it is ok and some not. As stated a new block will cost big money, and i would ideally like to keep it and go to +40 thou pistons. I was hoping to raise my compression from 9:1 to 10:1 by decking my heads, but maybe the...

    rebore 302

The block has been crack tested and is ok for another rebore. I see that various company sell +60 pistons, but i just wondered if that causes any issues?

    rebore 302

Hi all i have a 302 that needs a rebore. The block is currently +30 thou overbored. Is it possible to bore it out to +60 thou without any problems? I intend to fit alloy pistons with a rev limit of 6,000 rpm (10:1 compresion). And another question, are standard rods from a 1976 motor with...

    HELP! Poor engine power

Thanks for the help guys. I think maybe it is a cam timing problem. It is very strange that the engine is much quieter now than before both on induction and exhaust noise. Maybe the valves are not fully open? Im going back to the dyno tuner!

    spring rates

Can anyone suggest spring rates for a road going GT40 with a Ford 302. I have a car with a tendancy to lock the front wheels too easy, I have 350lb on the front and 475lb on the back. I think these are too much.Any suggestions?

The engine used to have Standard heads, an edelbrock Torker 2 and a...

    Horsepower

Le-mans is a not your typical track! with huge straights it will suit horsepower, but 9/10 tracks and sprint courses a lotus/caterham 7 will trounce any 40, thats a fact. I was able to lap Mallory park in a Rover 1600 engined clubmans car 3 seconds a lap faster than a 450hp GTD 40 at a recent...

    Horsepower

I think some of you guys are just are crazy about horsepower, but i dont think it makes a quick car. Im pretty sure a well set up light weight 350hp car would be quicker round a track than some wild race motored one. We dont use tyres that could control 500-600 hp and the supercars that do...
