Thanks. G86 was the same gearbox (rotated diff) than 996 Porsche 911. Has nothing to do with 01E or 0A2. After 2004, they switched to the cheaper VAG 0A2 gearbox.

Here a direct comparison between the 01E (orange) and the G86.20 (blue). The 01E has more clearance to the road/bottom. Overall same length, but certainly different gearbox. I would use the Porsche Boxter shifting mechanism (same for 996, year around 2000). I already have that here. Should only need a couple of additional brackets to make this work.

Can the cable shifter of the Porsche G87.21 be mounted on Audi 02A gearboxes? What about 01E gearboxes? Here the 02A. Has anyone done that? The housings seem to be a little different and the Audi housing may not have the mounting points for this cable shifter. The Audi versions are shifted...

These are different gearbox series. The 01E / 02A series are VW gearbox designs. The G86/G96/G97 are GETRAG gearbox designs. When Porsche and VW merged, they discontinued the GETRAG G series gearboxes and used the common 02A gearboxes from VW. The 02A was built in far higher numbers so it made...

Thereafter, the largest Diesel engines (3L) got the 0B1 transmissions. They located the differential housing further to the front. Likely many internal parts still the same. Probably a good option when space is limited. I believe they made these until 2014.

Found this on another forum. The 0A2 has a very tall 6th gear, which is ideal for larger displacement engines (V8 conversions, etc.). The 0A2 and the G87.21 have the same mounting flange bolt pattern. The G86.20 has a different mounting pattern. Did all of these exist cable operated?

OK, got things in here. One side is 405mm, the other is 321mm if I center the engine. Is that acceptable?
