    Forced induction SL-C's

Just tore into the last failed one last week. Found the oil pickup filled with some fiber. Not like a rag. More like fibers from a bottle brush (like used to clean block passages). This motor was built by a local builder... Safe bet the failure had nothing to do with it being an LS.

    Forced induction SL-C's

I'm switching my SLC from LS to 1UZ VVTi with a single turbo. Turbo is getting mounted at the back (ala Porsche 917). Plan is 900 RWHP. Not far enough along for pics...

The engine failure did lock up the drive train (at 155mph). Bent the crank .080. Did not have sticky tires (PS2s), but did have a lot of downforce cranked in. In any case, they are small diameter bolts. I'd suggest not assuming your every day internet supplier's bolts are actually up to...

    LS3 water pump rotation?

The issue is if you get air in the system (or getting the air out). If you have air in the top of the radiator and you are feeding the engine from the top, then you can have real issues. Maybe that is why some folks have so many issues getting their cooling system bled? If you think about...

    Mike's Build

Alex, sorry you had bad luck with them. We've used tons of the Wilwood ones - literally 50 or so over the last 3 years. No issues. Have a whole box of spare Wilwood reservoirs (large and small) if someone needs one (or 10) - shoot me a PM.

I had ordered 12.9 socket head bolts from one of the online suppliers. I usually order from www.allensfasteners.com, albanycountyfasteners.com or mrmetric.com so it was probably one of those. I blew the motor about 200 miles in. When I removed it, one bolt was broke, another broke when...

    CamT's build thread

On your test pipes, with your O2 sensors so close to an open end, I suspect you will have issues. It should run and be OK for go-kart stage, but I would not worry about tuning it or weird codes until you have something more substantial. I ran side exhaust with race cats and no mufflers. Was...

Be sure you use good quality bolts for the clutch. I used what was supposed to be good bolts, only to have a couple break. Ordered some from ARP second time around. Insane price, but they actually ARE good bolts...

    racecar build

Continues to look great. Like the plasma table. Wish I was not out of room in the shop... We've taken to 3D printing parts and then using that print for "lost wax" casting. Our first attempt at a big part, a 2GR-FE Intercooled Supercharger manifold, should be this weekend.

    LS3 water pump rotation?

I’m in Texas as well. Cooling with stock fans and radiator + large air/oil cooler is marginal with a stock LS7. At speed it’s ok but not good (210-220). Around town temps will climb.

Agreed, they are not certified. But the FAA inspector comes out and makes sure it looks flight worthy before you are assigned an N number. Have a buddy with a homebuilt helicopter. I would not trust him to work on my car...

    racecar build

You guys in the rest of the world have WAY too many rules! In Texas, an ASCS Certified Master Mechanic inspects the car. If he says it looks OK, then it's OK. These guys are Mechanics, not engineers. If your build is good quality, you have not done something stupid or half-ass, it stops...

possibly the sickest engine/tran package for an SLC ??

That engine has been 'coming' for sooo long: "Concept" crate engine in 2013: Got Wheels? | Mercury Racing Then in 2015 it seemed like it was ready: SEMA 2015 | Mercury Racing

    Graz Input Shaft

My Graz is currently in the car, and I've not been able to find this info from Googling... 1. What is the OD of the input shaft (around the splines)? 2. What is the number of splines? Yep, I am swapping motors....

    Thoughts on fuel tank temperature?

There are some good (and not cheap) PWM fuel pump controllers that can allow you to vary the amount of fuel pumped by RPM. One of those would be helpful if you are spending a lot of time with the engine lightly loaded.

Not quite sure I understand how you are venting the crank case. At a glance, it seems like you have vented it (the reason for the filters) and plumbed it into the intake. Is that correct?

Porsche 996 GT3 powered SLC recently sold

I love and appreciate the other people's cars that are very well finished. But that's not my thing. Hope those 'other people' can appreciate the more 'raw' cars... But, if YOU are happy with YOUR car, that is all that really matters!
