    GT40 side impact protection

I am a huge GT 40 fan. I happen to be almost too tall for the original 40 though. The original 40s are great for the race track, but I would like to use it on the street quite extensively, and for that it needs to be scaled-up by 20%. Safety is certainly not the only consideration, but it is a...

They look good, but are no component cars. If somebody gave me one I would probably sell it and build a true component car. When I see a well-known sports car on the street, I always feel embarrassed for the driver - it's hard for me to explain here why that is the case. I somewhat...

    GT40 side impact protection

I also find it hard to believe - but I have read few posts on the factory five forum (FFCars.com : Factory Five Racing Discussion Forum) and it does seem as if that was indeed possible. Do we have a website for the GT-R component car? I cannot find anything! I have been thinking about scaling...

    GT40 side impact protection

The Factory Fife GTM component car is a bit larger than the GT40. Reviewers, however, also point to the low roof line, which looks fantastic, but they suggest a taller cockpit for future versions. Factory Five – GTM | Kit Car Review

    GT40 side impact protection

Crash-testing has shown that besides the design of the chassis, the size of the interior room (as well as vehicle weight in cases where other vehicles are involved) is most important for safety and survivability. I have recently read an article that suggested that cars will continue to grow in...

    GT40 side impact protection

Thanks to everyone for this great discussion. I can clearly see the reasons why, in some instances, you would not want to have a roll cage in the car, but I still think that the arguments speaking for one dominate. This is an interesting discussion about wearing a helmet while driving a car...

    GT40 side impact protection

Like I said before, you probably have a Corvette as well, and that's the main reason why I would not want one. Also, if you're smart about it, you can end-up with side-impact protection better than that of a Corvette.

Yes, squares and rectangles are prone to collapse ("fold") due to bending moments in the corners, especially if there are parallel members, which is the case for the ladder-type reinforcement posted above. The squares will, however, only fold if the outer and inner sill members can move...

    RCR's Next car should be.....

A torque tube, rear engine chassis could provide all the torsional stiffness in an exceptionally compact design. Just an idea!

    RCR's Next car should be.....

I think it could be possible. There would have to be different sub-frames to support different window shapes and sizes. Look at this example: C5 Corvette

    RCR's Next car should be.....

... a kit car built in larger quantities than any other kit car before. This could, in my opinion, potentially be achieved if one designed a product upon which other kit car manufacturers build upon. I imagine a rolling chassis without front, rear or body components. A well-performing...

    GT40 side impact protection

I remember how surprised I was when I took the doors off my muscle car during restoration - they weigh almost 50 kg each! That is 50 kg of protection in the unfortunate case of an accident.

Hi there. Great to see that you find a few nice words to support your friend Mike, he will be happy and may buy you an ice cream next time you meet to cuddle together! With respect to your post: you have missed the point entirely and taken things out of context. Mike has meant and written "new...

    GT40 side impact protection

Is it probably because people want to build their car from a kit? Is it because people want to create something unique with their own blood, sweat and tears? Ever thought about that? Hey: this is a kit car forum, sure you have understood that after more than 1600 posts! Last time I checked with...

    GT40 side impact protection

Hi Bob, thanks for your reply. I have looked at your build in detail and do not think that the triangulated solution, as I understand it, is any better. I am unsure if I do properly understand the situation, but it looks like you are saying that instead of the two 90 degree cross members you...
