I don't remember whether Steve C published pictures of his Olthoff-designed shift linkage, but I have them and it is absolutely baroque. I can completely understand why Dennis would not want to repeat that construction experience. When/if I get around to trying that I'm going to attempt to...

:2thumbsup:!!! And, just to put a little detail into the failure story, it was in a car with yet another grossly over-powered Windsor that "Car and Driver" magazine had earlier road tested (or toasted?), running slicks on a track, and the failure was predictably caused by a machined fastener...

    Quaife ZFQ and RBT

I for one am immensely grateful to all who contributed to the ZFQ project. I never did understand what attracts the negativity to the issue; I suspect at least ignorance, although that's obvious even in this thread, but probably also fear of change and most likely envy and jealousy. Running...

The Quaife quote above is three years old and subsequent posts have told you it's available. Have you asked Quaife? Have you asked Olthoff? Have you looked for a used one? How about you do some research on your own and report some useful information back to us?

Martin -- your posts are too valuable to be shut off by the sloppy habits of a few members. Please don't leave. Otherwise the average IQ just keeps sinking and sinking....

Sean-- I don't think Glenn is being over sensitive. As one who frequently puts substantial effort into trying to help others on this forum I too find it very frustrating to craft a carefully worded response only to have it scrambled and fed back to me. Even in your post above you get the...

No one said that. There's only one I know of that's been damaged and that owner never reported on any efforts to repair it or have it repaired. Again, the factory says they have parts and I at least have heard of no negative support experiences. As with your other thread on track usage, why...

    Tracking a SPF

I'm coming from the same place as Larry: repeating some advice given by "pro-shops" with respect to 60's-based Ford pushrod engines that were originally designed for iron blocks using aluminum blocks instead. This is, after all, a thread on tracking a GT40 with a Ford 302 engine (see the...

Kelly -- The argument isn't that aluminum is not a suitable block material per se. The argument is that it does not work well to take a block originally designed to work as cast iron and simply duplicate it in aluminum. Olthoff as well made that argument to me when I was choosing my block.

    GT40s at Goodwood Revival 2013

Do you really think you can reason from the results of any vintage race that the car is not competitive? What about the driver? How skillful is he, and how willing is he to risk that car in that environment (i.e. surrounded by a bunch of other questionable drivers)?

Aside from what's documented there, I would advise anyone considering a ZFQ to look carefully at the drawings for both. They are not as interchangeable as one might think in terms of external dimensions.

    What's the deal with P/1029?

Best suggestion I've heard! 1966 is a really awkward time for a cutoff in the development of road racing. What's the March 14 event?
