Kelly -- The argument isn't that aluminum is not a suitable block material per se. The argument is that it does not work well to take a block originally designed to work as cast iron and simply duplicate it in aluminum. Olthoff as well made that argument to me when I was choosing my block.

Do you really think you can reason from the results of any vintage race that the car is not competitive? What about the driver? How skillful is he, and how willing is he to risk that car in that environment (i.e. surrounded by a bunch of other questionable drivers)?

Aside from what's documented there, I would advise anyone considering a ZFQ to look carefully at the drawings for both. They are not as interchangeable as one might think in terms of external dimensions.
