Welcome!
I have learned a ton from the great folks here. This site is gold! I live in California as well. I purchased a car that was running with a great engine, frame, body, and am making the car better 1 week at a time!
Tom I used a Makita machine polisher. the paint was about 12 years old it seems. yes 1000 was a bit aggressive but I got away with it as I was careful.
Thanks you, I was wanting a little more P-ZAZ on the paint and the Blue did the trick I think. I love Garage spaces and cleaning them, organizing them is a good mind de-cluttering activity! I like being able to drop a slice of bologna on the floor and have the 5 second rule not apply. ha!
A few more pictures. I then drove it to Roseville Rod and Customs to have Ben York of RRC/Yorks Speed Shop install his new Spark plug wire looms fresh off his CNC machine. It was a great few days of work done. I will post images of the wire looms later because I forgot to snap some pictures of them.
Took some time off of work to sand the paint and polish it! It took 4 long days from start to finish. Sanding it with 1000 grit, 1500 then 2000. Then I used the 3M 1,2,3 polishing process. Disclaimer " I have done this many times before" I am happy with the results. For those of you who have...

I bought LED bulbs for my tail lights but they did not light up. I have since updated the switch and wires on the tail lights so I should give it another try to LED stop lights.
as for mirrors....I installed some carbon fiber low pro race mirrors. Low Pro (low visibility)! haha
Awesome read! It makes it that much more special to own a GTD #219 to be specific. now that I have read some more history behind the car!
Thank you Andre for sharing.
Happy New Year John!
I formed the tank using .125 thick 3003 series aluminum sheet and I welded it on a Miller Syncrowave 200 at about 160-190 depending on the section I was welding. The walls or "box" was on the lighter 160amps but moved to 190amps when welding the thick billet cap receiver and...
