    GT-Forte GTs40 build

Cheers David Yep, there's a discussion on seat belt date here. Same view as Brett points out - date is only important for motorsport.

    GT-Forte GTs40 build

Hi David - looking good :) Just wondered if you've thought about how you're going to paint the panels yet? I've done a little research and came across this for the primer.... U-pol ACID#8 1K Etch Primer 1L Galvanised Aluminium Steel Metal Davids then probably a normal top coat, like Dulux...

    Fuse box location

Sorry to jump in here, just wanted so say thanks for sharing that info Bill. I've been trying to think up a neat solution for labelling cables for a while now. Clear shrink wrap - didn't know you could get this. Genius :)

James' GT-Forté scratch build GT40 MkI

Cheers Dave Got my Dad's radio from a car he had in the '60s. Will need to swap out the internals so I can get FM and add an amplifier...

James' GT-Forté scratch build GT40 MkI

Finished the triangulation between levels 1 and 2. Will probably focus on the horseshoe or maybe the tunnel next...

    Scotland Tornado

Hi Ian Just on registering the car - depending on where it's registered it can sometimes take quite a while to sort it out (maybe a few weeks). You could consider registering it asap and then declaring SORN to save on the road tax. You won't need fully comp insurance as you'll have to trailer...

    A Tornado in Yorkshire

Thanks for that Jason, sounds like it should be suitable. I think in another thread someone (Frank Catt from memory) said to check that the valve allows sufficient throughput. From the description it sounds like it should be fine, but might be worth double checking.

    A Tornado in Yorkshire

Looking great Jason :). You mentioned using an electronic valve to switch between tanks on the return flow. Just wondered if you've found something suitable for this yet?

I'm planning to replace the variable length intake manifold with individual throttle bodies. I've got these Hayabusa throttle bodies which will hopefully make the engine bay more exciting :).

James' GT-Forté scratch build GT40 MkI

Hi Stephen Does this mean you'll have 2 GT40s?! I guess the design of the U-brackets will depend on what bushes you're going to use unless you're going with rod ends. I'm using PB121 as attached which you can get from Rally Design. I used 40mm wide 3mm thick mild steel plate with a gap of a...

James' GT-Forté scratch build GT40 MkI

Hi Rene I've generally been leaving them over night, so around 12 hours. It depends how stubborn the rust is. This caliper was particularly rusty, so it's been in a couple of times. Some of the parts with just light rust were done in 4-5 hours. Looking forward to getting it primed and painted...

James' GT-Forté scratch build GT40 MkI

Bit more electrolysis done.... I'll replace all the caliper parts with new items. The piston doesn't look too bad, but as I've got it in bits I'll pop a new one in. I'm struggling finding a replacement handbrake shaft though. It's pretty pitted where it was in contact with the seal. Can't find...

James' GT-Forté scratch build GT40 MkI

Hi Renato Sorry for the delay, just back from hols... It's mild steel plate, 5mm think. For the wishbones I'm planning to use 1" OD x 12swg wall CDS tube. I'll probably get a 6 metre length of it so I can use it for the upper wishbones and rear radius arms etc. Cheers James

I'm quite liking electrolysis :). Really easy to do, and gives pretty good results I think!

James' GT-Forté scratch build GT40 MkI

I've modified a power supply unit from an old PC so I can use it as a 'lab' power source. I'm going to give electrolysis a go for cleaning a few parts, so I can use if for that and I guess it'll come in handy for testing circuits as I build up the wiring loom etc. Can't take credit for the...
