What it really costs to build out an SPF 40

Thanks. Those of us that are "mentally putting our cars together" for a future purchase are appreciative of other's experiences. Yes, I think most of us initially thought that we could get a SPF GT40 built and "off the dealer's lot" for not a whole lot more than a Corvette Z06 or Viper, but a...

SPF MKI, Bellhousings and all the other little stuff!

Great postings! . . . . more new ideas on how to build my car all the time. Thanks to all.

Autocar First Drive review of the Mk.I

I note that there is a marked difference in the engine specs in the text and what is listed in the block at the bottom. Could it be that the tested item in the text is a 4.7 L. and the blocks at the bottom are for the 7.0 L.? I think the price differential (almost $200,000 USD) is probably...

    SPF tested at Bruntinthorpe

More: Road & Track, September 2006, 0-100-0, sec.'s Corvette Z06 13.1 Viper SRT10 13.5 Ford GT 12.4 Except for the Ford, the cars are way under $100K. That's (on the surface of it) amazing performance with just a 4.7 L., as all the cars above have 5.4 (forced...

Beautiful car. It looks like something from Outer Space.

Lynn Miner's SPF GT40 Visits the Portland Historics

Then you didn't specifically raise the issue with him or his crew chief (like I did). It was his crew chief's words ("tough on") with respect to the Mr. Click's Mark I on ZF transaxles, not mine. I submit that the two ZF transaxles that they keep as spares aren't for investment purposes...

Lynn Miner's SPF GT40 Visits the Portland Historics

It's Jim Click's Mark I that thrashes ZF transaxles. http://www.gt40s.com/forum/superformance-gt40s/19988-would-sacrilegious-3.html

    SPF Mark11 at home

So, what's the latest on the issue of replica/reproduction/"continuation" cars formally participating in vintage/historic racing insofar as the FIA and race promoters over there?

    First SFP Owner Install Completed

Outstanding. Invaluable experience for even SPF's pro installers, most of which are still "feeling their way around" this car.

    Is it a kit

Currenly, $80K for a "roller." Constructed to Ford's original engineering blueprints. 90+% of the parts will interchange with the 1960's original. This is not a kit car. Unless you are experienced and able at race-car engineering and construction, you should have somebody else do the...

Now that was a quick and easy fix. What parts supplier or chain did you get those side-view mirrors from?

    ZF vs. Quiafe

If it were me, I would go with any useable transaxle reputed to be significantly stronger than the ZF. As I posted a week or two ago at http://www.gt40s.com/forum/superformance-gt40s/19988-would-sacrilegious-3.html I have on good authority that the ZF doesn't hold up well to even 400-450 hp...

    Would this be sacrilegious?

I was at a local HMSA event this weekend and talked to the crew chief of one Jim Click out of Arizona that was running a Mark I GT40 (plus a Chevron B36 and a couple of Cobras). The crew chief said that the 400-450 bhp small blocks that they ran in the Mark I was "tough on" ZF transaxles and...

    SPF MKII Ownership

No spare tire on the SPF version. Air conditioning unit occupies the space where the spare tire was carried on the original GT40's. Ya gotta carry "Fix-a-Flat"

    SPF MKII Ownership

There must be a commercial source for the quick-jacks/lever bars, as I doubt that the SPF dealers are fabricating their own. Ask around.

    SPF MKII Ownership

The two "snorkel" scoops on the rear deck are to cool the rear brakes. The scooped slot between them is to cool the transaxle. Apparently Hi-Tech/SPF has left it to the purchaser to install the ducting from these to the brakes and transaxle. (Actually, unless you plan on getting into endurance...
