    Harsh Winter in USA

I had thoughts of tapping into my oil tank to run a diesel generator - they are perfect for this kind of thing. Instead just put a big plug in the side of the house, and run a 7K portable to keep essentials running, though it won't handle AC.

Install your transaxle alone with one hand...............ya really!

not stylish or robust, but it did allow me, alone, to get the tranx off the back of engine, without breaking any fluid connections (cooling/clutch). Had to get the clutch and ring gear off the motor. So I used my 4 post lift and a wooden cross beam to unweight tranx and take it out the back of...

    Harsh Winter in USA

Good news things are returning to normal. If water runs for more than a few seconds, kill it and investigate. Once had a power outage in the middle of winter with overnight lows in high teens/ low twenties, and I was sh-tting a brick re heat plumbing. Fortunately for me, no freeze issues.

    Harsh Winter in USA

^ amen. Bashing places like NY and Cali seems to be a form of recreation for some people. I've definitely encountered some reverse snobbery in my time, it's quite unpleasant.

    Harsh Winter in USA

^ interesting, as I recall that happened just prior to the civil war, when individual deals for statehood were being cut for political reasons.

    Harsh Winter in USA

Texas Monthly just ran an informative article on the subject. Bottom line - lack of investment in “cold proofing” equipment caused the shut down. The whys of that policy are debatable, but ultimately lay in the demand for super cheap electricity.

    Harsh Winter in USA

I have no insight into the answer. But...the east coast blackout of 2003 was precipitated by a software bug in OH. 8 states taken down by faulty software in one place. Perhaps TX had concerns. Having been through a couple power outages lasting in excess of 5 days, including at least one in the...

How do you guys prevent the ECU from losing all adaptations when you isolate the battery from the car?

    This affects us all!

that is some heavy handed BS. I had, at one point or another, thought about buying a modern Jag. Not a chance of that now.

    Modern-day Miura

in race cars, designers are always aiming to lower CG, so locating the bar low in the chassis makes sense. Obvious exception is at the rear of mid-engine cars, especially those with pushrod suspension. With regards to less specialized cars, especially in front, the upper A arms are usually...

    Modern-day Miura

can't tell from the pics, is there any ackerman built into the steering? With regards to the OSB storage wheels, what's the safe load? Can you really put a fully built car (2000 lbs) onto these things? If so, I may need to make a set for winter when the car is in storage.

    Modern-day Miura

I'm with you on this - styling is tough. Look at how we grouse about a car because the grill is wrong, even if the rest of the car is gorgeous. Copying a proven "design" is probably 20% of the work of doing an original. You've got lots of things to figure out in this build, streamlining what...

Need advice, and possibly an engine block for 302 Ford

Hi Jim, hope I'm not rubbing salt in the wounds by asking, what temps resulted in a hard freeze in MD? I know it gets cold there, but I would have thought that with antifreeze etc, you'd have to go below zero to get a hard freeze. Asking because my car sits in an unheated garage in NY.

    Picture Request: Fuel Pump Arrangement

Seems like you could get a 12x12 sheet of 3/16" aluminum, which would allow you to tap directly into it, rather than using nut certs. Then sink a couple rivnuts into the chassis in appropriate locations to fasten the plate to the chassis. Rigid lines with 2 90 degree bends to allow disassembly...

What's happening in the USA ?

Fair enough Dave, I was a bit flippant, especially in the light of that afterglow - an event that will live in infamy. I feel you have cherry picked here - quoting his speech, which undoubtedly was viewed and washed beforehand by speech writers and helpers to be a) publishable b) not exhibit A...

What's happening in the USA ?

When the Ayatollah manages to convince thousands of Americans to gather, overrun the capital building, and kill a police officer, then we can ban him, too.

What's happening in the USA ?

^ spot on. The NY business community knew who and what he was - incompetent, and egotistical. I hope we are not witness to a slow march into national socialism, complete with burning down the Reichstag.
