    Need advice on cooling system

All-Many thanks for the quick and comprehensive responses. I have followed most of the suggestions such as inlet location, fans, ducting, etc. I will be experimenting with thermostat versus restrictor plate, as well as a restrictor in the radiator inlet. I am running a stock water pump, and...

    Need advice on cooling system

I have had my replica on the road for a few years, and have not been able to solve a slight overheating problem when the car is stationary for a few minutes. I read a thread some months back about someone who ran a vent from the top of the radiator to the back of the car into the cooling...

How do 4 barrel carbs work

All-I have a thin Holley tuning manual, which as I have discovered, is right on about what to do and what not to do to a Holley to get it to run right. They very clearly state do NOT use the screw trick. The vacuum secondary carb is designed and tuned for specific operation and transition to...

SHELBY AMERICAN AUTO CLUB (SCCA) Amy 23, 24 &25, 2003, Nahsville. TN!!

All-That's the SAAC events calendar, not the SCCA calendar. This event is the National Convention held annually. Normally, it is held in July, this year it is on Memorial day as it was the only weekend they could rent the track. Always a great event, lots of Shelbys, some Cobras, a few...

    regulations

Eric, As you are from Canada, you may be racing in both the US and Canada. In this regard, I would suggest contacting the sanctioning bodies directly, and talking (not just writing) with the technical teams about what you are doing, what is eligible, and what they will accept from not only a...

    Refined GT40 Replica?

I am sorry, but I disagree. Ford's modern GT40 is a nice blend of the original's timeless styling, with a fresh, technologically current powertrain. This car was the absolute hit at the Detroit Int'l Car Show. There was no other car on display with a crowd 6 people deep all around. This is...

    Only A Rumor

All-According to a news clip in a recent article of Motor Trend, Saleen will be the builder of the new GT40 for Ford. Roush may be involved in the engine program, but Saleen will actually build the car. Thanks-Jack

    Originial Tire Sizes?

All-Maybe a little late for this thread, but I have 7X15 and 9X15 wheels running 245/50X15 and 295/50X15 BFG Euro T/A Radial tires. They are H-rated, handle pretty well on the race track (but not as good as slicks, of course), and are reasonably priced. They adjust to tire pressures well, and...

    HELP! Engine quit!

Chip-Suggest looking for an electronic replacement for points and condensor. They have units which fit the FE distributor, or you could even use a Ford electronic distributor, or an aftermarket unit. Pitch the points, etc. They are always a pain in the ... Jack

    Individual Throttle Bodies

Another EFI option is available from Pantera Performance in Colorado. I have a 351 Cleveland in my 40, and am in the process of installing a Haltech based system on my car. It uses a standard Weber 4X2 intake, and the system is complete with all wiring, sensors, computer, throttle bodies, etc...

    Looking for colour codes...

Guys-Remember-these were RACE cars of the late 60's and early 70's. One was headquartered in England, the other in Germany. Does anyone think they were concerned about paint codes or consistency of color? Most likely, there were differences from race to race in the blues and oranges...

    MKIIs?

Andrew- I've read through this thread and would like to pass on some things you should really consider before embarking on this journey. Drag racing a big block GT40 is going to be expensive, and probably dissappointing. Power shifting a Cobra or Mustang with a Hurst shifter and top-loader...

    GT40 Car Cover??

I can speak for the California Car Cover product. I have one for my MKI. Fit is excellent. They will put mirror pockets in as needed. Mine is going on four years old, and has held up very well. Highly recommend you take a look at their product. Jack

    Windshield rubber moulding

Anyone have a good source on a rubber windshield moulding for a GT40? Mine cracked, and I want to replace it. Thanks-Jack

    Windshields

Lynn-While this is a bit late, I used rubber well nuts on my car for all the plastic covers, and they have worked extremely well. No cracks, no screws coming lose, just a simple, effective way to attach the covers. Jack

    'Horse shoe' stickers

Re: \'Horse shoe\' stickers Fred-No, I have had these for a couple of years. Give me a few days to get a picture, and I will try emailing one to you. Jack

    Front license plate bracket?

While the Cobra's had a rod across the radiator opening to which a bracket could be mounted, I would suggest mounting on the floor of the radiator entrance in a 40. When the speed is sufficient, the plate folds flat on the floor. Jack

    This is a leading question.

Chris- Answers to your questions. 1. Not sure a Mk III replica would sell. The Mk I is a much prettier car. A Mk IV would be neat, but the limited cockpit space and long front overhang would make it a challenge on the street. 2. McLaren F1, Chaparral 2D come to mind. 3. Don't think a...

    Front license plate bracket?

Colin-I have not made one, but a friend had a trick set-up on a 427 S/C a few years ago. He fashioned a bracket with a weak spring so that when the car was stopped, the plate was vertical and visible, anything above 10 MPH, the wind overcame the spring tension and flattened the plate so air...
