    Fire

Red, Alan has some good points but, I have been using MSD distributors for yrs w/o a problem. Suspect you have the version using (calling for the 3/4" screw and the belleville washer). The retaining nut used is a type of "captive nut" and in combination with the belleville if the screw is...

    Fire

Was it a new never touched distributor or had the rotor been replaced? MSD sells the replacement cap with 2 sets of screws. One set of screws is longer. If the shorter screw was used it might not have had enough purchase and came loose and out. See MSD...

    Brake & Clutch fluid reservoirs

Chet, Looks like you used Girling's (larger centered for the brakes and smaller offset for the clutch?). Did you run braided to the master cyls and if so what did you use? As I recall there isn't much vertical height in the cavity. Were you easily able to make the hose radius...

    Brake & Clutch fluid reservoirs

Alan, Interesting idea but, if the cans aren't held when removing the caps (they are difficult to remove) I believe the can would rotate and the fitting/sealing washer would loosen causing leakage. My way with the "Right Stuff' not only seals the can to the cover plate but aids the clamps...

    Ball Joints and Boots

Alan, Yup, boots will tear/sever along the parting line without grease as the design of the boot puts a reinforced collar into a circular slot in the upright and w/o lube it grips and tears the boot. If and when you take the assembly apart you will see that the SPF boot is "unique", no...

    Brake & Clutch fluid reservoirs

Guys, What I did was remove them, clen up and reassemble with "The Right Stuff" to seal between the cans and the cover plate. The Right Stuff is great for this. Now have a great seal to the cover and when unscrewing the covers the cans do not move at all. Also good idea to...

    FE Hoop Fit

Mark/Alan, Piqued my curiosity so went over to the garage. Have the car up on blocks doing winter PM's and large 24" block right under the lower crossmember so can't get a pic but, I was able to put my fingers between the bellhousing and the crossmember so maybe 3/8 at the lowest point...

    FE Hoop Fit

Mark, Doesn't make sense. I Have FE and ZF with plenty of space between the bellhousing and lower cross member (see pics in the SPF forum). Grady with P2124 has same configuration and no space issue either. If you look at pics of P2125 in the SPF forum note that I do have a specially...

    FE Hoop Fit

Mark, Do you have the correct upper cross member? Big block cross member is different (not same as used for small block) lifts the engine/transaxle higher. Steve C

    SPF Purchase and Install Decisions

Alan, Great list! One correction: LHD can be fitted with rod shift as evidenced by P2125 as built and fitted by Olthoff (happy I had it done). Steve P2125 PS: When are we going to see some pics of P2160 under construction?

    Road Trip Advice

Good point Alan. As you know I have installed the "number" lights (no roundels) and DO turn them on at night. Extra insurance but, wonder what the police think of them (I haven't been pulled over yet). Although 2125 is a light color I think they will help even on a dark colored car...

    Road Trip Advice

Per Alan's cue: Jim Craik is obvioulsy the most credible source with 20K miles but, FWIW from me: I regularly take 300 mile Day trips and a few overnights. Just checked now over 6,000 milesand never a breakdown or road incident. As others have said the SPF chassis is without issues as...

Right Hand Drive (RHD) in USA - Comments

Been 3 yrs now with P2125 and over 5,000 miles of mainly 200 to 300 mile trips on Mass and Ct highways. Wasn't sure going in but, I am convinced I'm better off with LHD (not only from a driving standpoint but my getting in and out not getting hung up on the shift as well as better for my wife...
