I put BRMs on my GT 40 because I got tired of scraping my knuckles on the Halibrands on my Cobra. The BRMs are way easier to keep clean.

The differences on the front clip are small enough you may only want to change the rear clip. It will still be expensive. The rear clips are pretty hard to make.

I do not think this was a condensation issue. The plating failed everywhere in the bowl. Even above the fuel level. If it was water I would expect it only on the bottom. I think it is bad prep on the metal before the plating.

I would guess that it could be done. You would be on your own for the adaptor plate. What motor are you trying to adapt to?

For a mid mounted, normal rotation engine you do not invert an 016 transaxle. You run it in the normal orientation. You normally only invert the Porshe boxes because they are designed for rear rather than mid engine.

If your manifold is like mine you will need to drill two holes, one for each head. To do this you will need to pull the intake to make sure you it the coolant port in the head. This photo may help:
