I just bought a Factory Five GTM kit off of eBay. I guess I will get a first hand comparison of the handling of my RCR40 and a GTM. I either need to buy a new garage to go with the kit or I will be selling a nice Factory Five Cobra soon.
The switch alone is about $100. I have bought two from Finishline. On the North kit you are paying another $100 for the aluminum bezel and the short column.

I had troubles with 5th and reverse as well. What I found is the bolt attaching the heim joint on the shift cable was stricking the transaxle case. You probably need to reverse the bolt so that the nut side is against the case and cut the bolt as short as it will go.
I just used a deep socket that was a close fit and then added some masking tape to make the fit even tighter. The splines cut into the tape and make it work pretty well.
Shelby was a great driver and an inspired car builder but he seams to have the leaden touch. Any gold he touches turns to lead. All his business ventures seem to end badly.
I used grommets cut into a C shape in each corner and U shaped trim along each length. Not very pretty but on the inside I covered it all with the carpeting.
