    P1001

Re: P/1042 (1001) I know forum supporters have been patiently awaiting news of P/1042 (1001). Things have been a little slow due to a reshuffle at the works in New Zealand, but I am assured that steady progress is being made, so I thought you might like to share in the “story” of the car and...

    P1001

Yves... thank you for sharing your photographs with us. Were you at Le Mans in 1966 I wonder? Note the lack of driver's door air scoop. This was added in late 1966 or 1967 to cool the cockpit down in the African sun during its time racing in the Springbok series... Andrew

Re: P/1042 (1001) More research reveals GT40P/1042 got barbequed at Monza in either 1968 or 1969. Here's an original press photograph, note the lack of fire equipment. Do we wonder why sometimes more than one Pheonix arises out of a fire and "might" explain the origins of P/1042... or not!

I don't know who's is the more authentic and I wouldn't question the wisdon of Ronnie Spain, but I wouldn't have sent my 100s of period parts out to NZ, if it wasn't for the fact David gave me a great deal and had some "previous history" with the original GT40P/1042... Andrew

    P1001

Sorry Jim, but this is where you just don't get what I'm trying to achieve. If I wanted it to look brand new, then everything would have been brand new. If I wanted to make it more useable, then I'd have used modern parts out of a Toyota etc and then I might as well gone all the way and bought...

P/1042 (1001) Some photographs taken when a friend visited New Zealand back in March. Some of the chassis is period original, although most of it is new.

Do I need to call the Police and report a felony? "Book him Dano and call the Assistant DA"! Now that's cleared the air... I can report that progress is slow, I'll post some photographs taken in March later, so I haven't necessarily been in hiding, as the information coming from New Zealand...

I can only thank you for dedicating so much time to the magazine and to those members who contribute articles. Indeed, if it were not for negative tax implications, this most professional magazine would be selling to car nuts all over the world via local bookshops. Please keep up the good...
