Doing a little math (GT40 quickness)

The original GT40 (Mk-I) was very good for its time and is a car designed for Long Distance Road Racing (Lemans) at it won in 68 and 69 against "better" and up to date cars. The brakes, tires, wheels and horsepower can not match a modern sports car. My first ERA GT was 330 C.I Ford with a...

    Simeon Automotive Museum

Last Friday I had the opportunity to visit the Simeone Automotive Museum. I was very impress. All my previous museum visits were in Europe. The setup is very nice and I hope for more visitors to this museum. The dedication and the money invested is very large. I assume he has over $30M in...

    Cleveland or Windsor

Ford's equivalent to the Dodge Hemi is the FE based 427SOHC...stands for "Single Overhead Cam". Not surprisingly, IIRC the combustion chamber was hemispherical....... Ford racing NASCAR engine that competed against the Hemi was the 427 tunnel port and later the Boss 429. The ERA did built a...

    Earliest GT40 replicas?

On your website it states "Tornado Sports Cars were formed in 1984 and production of our GT40 replica, the TSC GT40, began in 1989" Cobra Restorers built an ERA GT way before 1989 and ERA delivered a turn key car before 1989.

    Earliest GT40 replicas?

Calling FiberFab a GT40 with a VW engine and parts is stretching it. GT40 replica or a Cobra should be faithful to size, engine, finish, tub construction, gearbox etc. Sbarro would be the oldest since he built a few GT40 in 1968. He later built GT40 in 1982. Safir Engineering LTD...

    Earliest GT40 replicas?

I meet Peter Portante (ERA) in late 1989. A white and blue ERA GT was already built and delivered. Cobra Restorers had built a yellor ERA GT 3 or more years before. The test car was even older. So early 1980's ERA started their GT project.

What's the Story With This Car?

IL salvage Titles When a vehicle has suffered damage that would cost more to repair than the vehicle's market value, it may be declared salvage. It will be issued a salvage certificate of title ($4) and removed from the road―a salvage vehicle cannot be registered. If a licensed rebuilder...

    What are all the abbreviations?

The J-Car is from appendix J regulations in the FIA Regulation which allowed to run cars with limited production numbers. The J-Car evolved to the MK-IV after the Ken Miles accident at Riverside. Ford built 12 chassis (11 and 12 chassis were spare cars and they were later finish in MK-IV...

Preference: Replica GT40 or Ford GT?

The car has Oil coolers with fans at the back of the car. Also the back clip the vents are the Gulf type (round holes instead of louvers.). The GT40 also vents thru the side scoops pushing air to the back. The car never had any issues with temperature. Even the newer version that the engine...

Preference: Replica GT40 or Ford GT?

"Also notice the big fat hole for the engine/gearbox in the GT40 and the way in comparison the Enzo has the gearbox end faired in?" My first ERA GT I requested that the gearbox and engine bay to be fully covered. My concern was not aero but water in the road (rain) which would pull dirt inside...

Sorry to know that he passed away. I talk once him over the phone several years ago. He tested the parts in a airport runway.

Preference: Replica GT40 or Ford GT?

George: Somewhere in my house I have a SAE publication on the Aero study that Ford did on the GT. The study cost Ford over 1M. They pullout a GT40 from a Museum to make the test. An ERA customer sells a side and front changes to make the car more stable at speed. He did not play with the...

Preference: Replica GT40 or Ford GT?

Ford spend a lot of money in wind tunnel for the new Ford GT to fix the aero issue of the old GT40. The Ford GT is a modern supercar and can not be compared to the original or a replica of today. My second ERA-GT was built because at track events I had trouble keeping with the Mustang...

    remote power brake master cylinder

Hello Lloyd. I know I am going to get in trouble with Peter. My car has Power Brakes since day one and they work great. That was my main problem with non-power brake cars (cobras and GT). With the 17" wheels and the 13" brakes the PB was needed. Jimmy send me an electric ps option but...

    Mark IV

The MK III is a street version of the MKI with small block (four headlights in the front) and very few were produced (7) and the tail was longer to fit luggage. The T44 was the 4 speed Magnesium case Transaxle built by Ford for the MK-II and MK-IV which shared the 427 V8 big block. The...

    MK3

I saw my first Ford GT at Sebring in 1970. JW Automotive had changed to the 917 and Ferrari were running the 512. Two GT40 MK-I had qualified 20 and 26 and both were DNF. Steve McQueen finish second on a 908 with a leg in casting. They were fun time.

    MK3

You are right must people do not like MK IV , We purchased J-10 around 16 years ago and Mr. Holden loves the looks of it and the wheels. My choice is still the MK-I. Since no body makes a replica of the MK-III, I can assume there is no demand for it.
