    SLC 24 Howard Jones

Drop a plumb bob line from the center of your top bearing and measure the offset of the lower bearing, then use trig to calculate angle based on that reading and the length between top & bottom bearings.

    300 ZX project

If running your 300ZX at Bonneville is in your future plans, get an SCTA rule book before you go too far with your roll cage, etc.

    Evans Waterless Coolant

If I remember correctly, it has lower specific heat than plain water. We used a mixture of sodium dichromate and water in our M8C McLaren back in Can- Am. It had a 472 cubic aluminum block. I wouldn't recommend it in a street engine, though.

    milling brake pads

I second the suggestion of a belt sander. Just keep the pad parallel to the sander so you don't introduce taper on the pad. A little taper is OK, even factory- new pads are not perfectly flat. The caliper bore accommodates a bit of taper. The pad bedding -in braking will wear it flat anyway.

Happy New Year and current values

Agreed. A Porsche G50/01 is a good option. The one used in the 1988- 89 Carerra is best.

    Steve's RCR GT40 Build

Steve- I am not singling out your post, these are just some recommendations for wiring any home- built car. Frequently a project is finished with great attention to craftsmanship but its electrical wiring is a rat's nest. Neat wiring isn't easy but it can be accomplished with some forethought...

    GT40 - Happy Christmas 2024 - GT40

Thanks, Ian- Merry Christmas to you, too. In 1963 my Corporal guided missile unit was flown from Rhein-Main, Germany to Benbecula in huge USAF cargo planes and landed on the Benbecula Aerodrome with all of our equipment. We were billeted with the British Army there and we fired missiles from the...

Top cover vent location RBT 5DS/2-201

Amen to that. Back in my Can-Am days, we ruined a Hewland LG600 by having ring gear bolts back out far enough to ruin the housing.

    RCR 40 G 96 transaxle support

This is how I supported my G50/01. It has the short tailshaft so it makes it easier to support. The linkage is an earlier version that was revised.

    CV-style shifter linkage?

Shifting gears a mid-engine car is an inherent problem no matter how it is done. I ran through a number of iterations of a rod shifter and it is now satisfactory but not it's easy to build. My transaxle is a Porsche G50/01. It has a shifter rod sticking out of the rear case which is rotated and...

    Alans Scratch build

A simple butt weld might work OK but if you cur the ends at , say a 45 degree angle and weld the two parts together you will have a stronger, more fatigue- resistant axle. Keeping the two parts aligned is critical, no matter how you do it. What is the dog's name?
