    Homebuilt Mid-Engine Sports Racer

I created a video of my entire Black Mirage build that may be of interest to other constructors. It is a fairly comprehensive video, about an hour long but it ends just short of finally running on the salt at Bonneville.

trying to get below 103dB for Spa track day

I guess this is similar to the situation where people move next to an airport and then complain about the noise!

    "GT and Sports Car Project"

The GT40 report may be copyright Ford Motor Company but here are a couple of pages of John Horsman's hand-written notes on gearing for their Mirage M12. He wrote this on legal-sized lined yellow paper so the very bottom would not fit in my scanner. On the page "M12 Le Mans Gear Ratios", there is...

    RCR’s New In-house Steering Rack

FYI, "Heim", although commonly used to describe a spherical rod- end bearing, is actually a brand name.

    "GT and Sports Car Project"

I went to that website and checked it against my report that John gave me. First, that on-line copy is missing the first page, a photo of the original GT40. Second, that copy is missing the last half of the report. My copy has twice the number of pages as the on-line copy. My copy has the last...

    Rod End Bearing Advice Request

I just checked Rod End Supply and a 1/2" right- hand thread high strength alloy Teflon- lined rod end was $9.48. Your application is probably similar but check the bore, threads, and whether you might need a high-misalignment type.

    Rod End Bearing Advice Request

There are some aerospace- grade spherical rod end bearing manufacturers but those are REALLY expensive. There are suppliers that can provide Teflon- lined bearings and those are usually high quality. Chrome- moly rod ends are preferred due to their higher strength. Be aware that some rod ends...

    Trailer Modifications

I have loaded my car both ways- nose forward and nose backwards. It is easier to load a car nose first as you can steer it normally but a mid- engine car has a rear weight balance and backing the car on to a trailer gives you added trailer tongue weight load which helps stability when towing. My...

    Randy's RCR40 MKI

A residual pressure valve also keeps the brake pads from retracting back into the calipers, which causes a long pedal stroke on first application. The low residual pressure in the brake line also keeps seals tight.

Best practices for keeping heat in header pipes?

That message was from me, Randy.

Best practices for keeping heat in header pipes?

Randy, I have no idea of who made this stuff but I have a big roll of it and I'd be happy to send you some. Approximately how many sq ft do you need?

Best practices for keeping heat in header pipes?

That is certainly a difficult problem with such close spacing. I used some material to cover the rear firewall of my race car that might work for you. It is a high- temperature woven ceramic fabric with an aluminum foil coating bonded to it. If you install it with the metal side toward the...

Best practices for keeping heat in header pipes?

Reduce the diameter to zero and you'll have no heat at all.

Best practices for keeping heat in header pipes?

I think we are tackling two questions here. One, how to keep the heat within the headers and Two, how to reduce the radiant heat from the headers. While both are somewhat related, the radiant heat problem seems more of a concern. The heat from a red-hot exhaust header tube can scorch paint, melt...

Questions about wiring loom for engine

I considered using fuses but decided against them. Instead, I used "switch-breakers", a circuit breaker that is designed to also function as an on/off toggle switch. All these are circuit breakers except the main power switch, the ignition switch, and the push button starter. The ones marked...
