    porsche carrera gt motor

I was at a track day last year where there was a Porsche Carrera and it sounded like a Formula 1 car - very high pitched - and it was pretty fast too, unlike most super cars at track days which are very much slower than our Radical, which of course is a pure race car (but only 1500 cc). Chris

Blue and Orange - A recent Fortyfication Article by Sam Cork

You would think that Gulf would welcome the free publicity afforded by GT40s painted in Gulf colours, especially as they invariably carry Gulf decals as well. My car is not in Gulf colours. Chris

UK met for the New Year

Sorry Keith. The above bit on profiling should have been in the next thread, where you had already mentioned it anyway. A very Happy, Prosperous and above all, Safe 2010 to all members of this forum. Chris

UK met for the New Year

A very happy new year to you David. I agree with practically everything you say on this forum - should I be worried!? On the subject of airport security, I have long felt that the whole system would be much more efficient if they profiled the passengers most likely to be suicide bombers, eg...

    Need a battery...

It is OK to go upside down as long as positive g is maintained throughout the manoevre, eg in a loop or barrel roll. For prolonged inverted flight where positive g cannot be maintained, special fuel and oil systems are required. My aircraft was solely for touring use and therefore without the...

    Need a battery...

I had an Odyssey battery in an aircraft for several years and it gave no trouble at all. When the aircraft was just sitting in the hangar over winter for 3+ months, it was never put on charge but started the engine with no problems when Spring arrived. (FYI the aircraft was not flown in winter...

Quite possibly the greatest automotive story ever

It is comforting to know that such altruism still exists in this world we live in. It is just a pity that the sentiment is not shared by those who seek to govern us. Chris

    rolldown side windows

My father had a Lotus Elite (the one with the Coventry Climax engine) in the 60s and on that the side windows were removeable and could be stowed behind the seats. Nothing to do with windows, but I remember taking a friend for a ride in it and doing 100+ mph on the road to the North of the...

    Glass rear screen?

The additional weight of a glass rear screen is not an issue IMHO. My glass screen was pretty light - and I get a good view to the rear over the top of the throttle bodies in my interior rear view mirror.

    A Christmas Poem...

Thanks for that David. Neatly sums up the way it is for the military. Would that we lived in a world where their sacrifices were not necessary. Chris

Ford 302: Induction Ram Pipe lengths

Have now measured it and the figures are as follows:- Manifold to inlet end of ram pipe - 175mm From top of throttle body to inlet end of ram pipe - 90mm The manifold is a Cobra one for Weber IDA/IDF and has a raised section for each carb choke/throttle body which is where the lower...

I will let you know tomorrow after I have measured it. Chris

Ford 302: Induction Ram Pipe lengths

Hi Andy The length of the ram pipes has an effect on performance, ie the longer the pipe, the more low down torque you will have but at some expense to top end power apparently. Canam cars tended to have very long ram pipes. I have got Jenvey throttle bodies on my car on a weber manifold...

    Engine advice and suppliers

Hi Trev My engine, a 347 stroker, was from Real Steel. I am very happy with it so far - and I have no connection whatsoever with Real Steel apart from being a happy customer. You should get a 347 stroker on an early block (to reduce the emissions test requirements) delivering at least 400 bhp...

    O1E 6 speed

The 2 wheel drive version of the 01E was fitted to the front wheel drive Audi A8. This version of the A8 was never sold in the UK as all A8s sold here were automatics - presumably the same for the US. I ordered a new one from an Audi dealer and it arrived in about a week. The ratios aren't...

    Splinter Supercar

They make aircraft out of wood, or used to, so why not cars. I believe the original Marcos had a wooden chassis. Chris

Should NATO continue to be involved in Afghanistan?

+1. The difficulty now for NATO and the politicians is how to get out of Afghanistan in such a way that it appears we have won the war, or at least not lost it.

    F1 2010

Latest news is that Kimi R has signed with Citroen to drive for them in the Rally championship next year - but only for 1 year, after which he hopes to come back to F1. Sauber is definitely taking over the BMW team and will be back next year as long as he signs the Concorde agreement. A...

    Repro VIN/CHASSIS NUMBER PLATES

Assuming that Ben has long since disposed of his stock of chassis plates and badges - it was 8 years ago and he said he wouldn't be manufacturing anything - does anyone know of a source for replica FAV plates at this time? Chris
