    Randy's RCR40 MKI

Probably, but I thought it would be really hard to determine how much and where to trim since the glass edge was curved outward from top to bottom and the A-pillar is relatively straight. Can’t just say take off 1/8” on each side. Also, the curve was more pronounced on the bottom on the DS and...

So awesome. Great to see the efforts really do pay off. I am newly motivated. Thx for sharing.

Windshield Day 3 I found that an office chair works well to support the windshield while sanding. Note the large rubber mat under the chair. I beveled the edges constantly using 150-grit with a 5” orbital sander. The orbital sander does not heat up the glass because it is drawing air through...

does anyone have the drawings of the gt40 book uncovered?

As I mentioned in my first response, the book is formatted to make it nearly impossible to share the content.

    302 Oil Pan

I made the mistake of not getting correct pan and had to make the starter notch like a caveman.

does anyone have the drawings of the gt40 book uncovered?

Unfortunately, this book is probably not what you need for that. The chassis section is only about 15% of the book and half of that is text. I am pretty good with CAD and I am sure I could not replicate a chassis with the provided information.

    Chuck's Jaguar D Type Build

It seems there is no end of detail opportunities to build an accurate replica. The hard part is deciding when to say it’s close enough :)

does anyone have the drawings of the gt40 book uncovered?

The book has probably less than 5% of the source drawing. There are thousands of original drawings. I think they are in a chest of drawers located in Switzerland. The pages in the book are 400mm x 400mm and it is tightly bound. This makes it nearly impossible to simply scan them. The book is...

    Randy's RCR40 MKI

Yes, but the glass from fiberglass also has epoxy resin. So not only causes lung issues, but also can result in an allergic reaction. Much more fun.

    Randy's RCR40 MKI

Ian, Yes, I am pretty sure glass dust is not healthy. I am wearing a mask and have a fan blowing from behind me to carry the dust away from me. Unfortunately, adjusting the aperture is not really an option because of the amount of adjustment required. Basically, the A-pillars are straight and...

Windshield More sanding today. I found that the random orbital sander doesn’t work as well as the belt sander, but the belt sander generates heat much faster so it’s important to switch sides frequently. In any event I can’t sand for very long because this beast is great for floors but gets...

    Randy's RCR40 MKI

I bought this car more for the building than the driving. To me it’s like a good book. I used to only buy books with at least 500 pages because I wanted them to last. Same for this car. I am in no hurry to finish as long as I am enjoying the process.

    Randy's RCR40 MKI

The glass fits the top and bottom profiles perfectly allowing for a nice 1/8” to 3/16” gap along both the top and bottom. However, the glass is too wide to slide up in the frame, so currently there is no gap at the bottom and 3/8” gap at the top. A lot of that extra width can be fixed by...

    Randy's RCR40 MKI

Spider I spent the morning, and wore out many blades, trimming the spider flanges. I used an elevated disk to measure the distance on the flanges. To avoid the flange fillet, I cut out some circles in 1/4” plywood with a hole saw and glued them together. Then stuck a marker in the hole and...

Dash pics End of dash cut at the seem to allow the pillar to flex to 90^ Front edge of pillar trimmed to fit the dash support post. If installing the six point roll cage, more room is needed between the post and pillar for the roll cage mounting bolts. A-pillar shaved to fit dash instead of...

Engine mount bolts, washers and nuts

My RCR mounts were bowed from welding heat. A couple of strategic wacks with a 3# sledge was all it took to make things fit.

Engine mount bolts, washers and nuts

If one bolt, then it can’t be tightened down. There would be total reliance on the locking nut. Over time the tabs would likely bend inward allowing the engine to move back and forth. That would get progressively worse. The solution is to insert a piece of pipe between the tabs. I found out...
