    CAV #180 Factory Roller

Home in Texas! CAV 180 has arrived! Just 14 months after the first contact with CAV in Nov 2013 ;) It's been a looooong wait. It was late afternoon, but I shot some quick photos just to prove I ain't lyin' :D Drove around the block one time just to get a feel for the clutch and shifter before...

    Tornado GT40 in Texas

Bob, that left sample does look like Guardsman Blue to me. I suppose you have Lynn Miner's wonderful reference .. if not, then: http://www.gt40s.com/images/howto/LynnMiner/Reference/Paint.pdf The last two pages show the SPF and CAV PPG codes, they are identical, except CAV uses smaller...

    CAV #180 Factory Roller

Re: Finishing up at Olthoff's Ho, ho, ho ... Santa played a big joke on Sammy  The haulers have been scarce over the holidays ... So Dennis took the extra time to be thorough. This is good. It still needs a road shakedown, but there has been a lot of rain. So Friday, given some dry...

Nice To Be Back In A GT40

We really didn't intend to match colors. As it turns out, they are identical down to the stripes. Gary says he's gonna put roundels and numbers on his so we won't get them mixed up at restaurants ;) But the unbelievable thing is: they will arrive in North Texas together on the same transport...

    CAV #180 Factory Roller

Thank you Jamie. Keep in mind that my car has a robust motor, built for abuse (my specialty!) and the RBT/ZF transaxle. So about $12.5K for the motor and $12.5K for the RBT, throw in another $15K worst case for all the bits (clutch, tires, engine accessories, safety harnesses) and build labor...

    CAV #180 Factory Roller

Thanks, Pat. I will look at that. One issue we are working is clutch pedal stiffness. This car has the RBT/ZF mechanical throw out arm and Pantera style throw out bearing. That is what CAV called for. The clutch is a McLeod 10.5" Mustang style diaphragm, single plate version. As I tried it, it...

Won't be long now. I'm also looking forward to seeing the finished model. Think Victoria's Secret Underwear Model ... Bob, I know you are savoring the journey, and it is not a race ;) Sam

More Finishing up at Olthoff's Some still photos from the trip. In the second image, note the newly welded nuts in the firewall on the left, and see the harnesses mounted on the right:

    CAV #180 Factory Roller

Finishing up at Olthoff's I'm back from a short trip to North Carolina to survey the progress. We are in the final stages of personalizing the car. Specific things included installing hard points for shoulder harnesses that were not there in the factory body. Also we fitted the seat and pedal...

    CAV #180 Factory Roller

Please do, Dave! If you would like to post some photos, I would appreciate it :) I won't know when or if I will be there till Dennis gets back to me with his assessment. This looks like it is going to get into Thanksgiving week, absolutely the worst time for air travel in the U.S. Ordered a...

    CAV #180 Factory Roller

I'll have to see if Dennis or someone there will do that, Pat. I'd like that also, but I'm not going to be on site till it is almost complete. Sam

    CAV #180 Factory Roller

Thanks Dave. I may come in for a fitting, at least. I'd like to make sure all is in order. I'll have the pro's pick her up. I can't buy the gas for what they charge. Sam

    CAV #180 Factory Roller

Out of Africa ... :) Finally CAV #180 is feet dry in CONUS, out of the tin can! Presently resting in Raleigh NC from its long, jointed transit. Ahhh, the stories it could tell: Cape Town, Las Palmas, Rotterdam, Bremerhaven, London, Le Havre, New York, Norfolk ... Dennis Olthoff will gather it...

    There is G-Pete

Welcome Pete! Ha! I knew it would not be long before a new project surfaced in your shop :D We're all going to be greatly entertained as a scratch built 40 arises here. There are a few GT40 builds going locally. Three in McKinney, and one in Arlington, that I am aware of. I am performing mine...

    CAV #180 Factory Roller

Jimmy, I'm told that #180 is the first to have these billet uprights. Since they appear to be drop in replacements for the cast version, I imagine they will eventually be available as a retrofit kit. Johann says #180 has collected enough production upgrades to consider it a benchmark serial...

    CAV #180 Factory Roller

Almost ... it actually got into a container and went to the port. Then the winter storm hit Cape Town and our ship was held up. The factory recalled the container and took the opportunity to incorporate an upgrade to the new billet rear uprights. #180 will be the first CAV GT with these. This...

Here ya go, Jimmy. Also a closeup of the edge treatment on the headlight covers. Not sure if it is tape or paint. Sam

    CAV #180 Factory Roller

Thanks, Jimmy. I am guessing the fasteners were not installed at the time Jordi ran out in the shop and shot the photos. If they aren't on when I get it, I have a roll of blue 200 mph tape here  The only extra cost options on this car are the stripes and the car cover. Otherwise, it...
