    Engine in…..new problems.

Thanks!! It’s been bothering me now because I put on these pulleys months ago and would have loved to have worked this all out then, with the engine out. I’ve dug through my emails looking for correspondence and cant find anything about it. I thought I had also put a post up questioning it...

    Engine in…..new problems.

The balancer is the way I got the engine from Prestige, fully assembled. I think I even called them last year when I was assembling the pulleys to ask them why the balancer was so far out. I dont remember what they said though. They ran it and dyno’d it before shipping so I’m sure thats how...

    Engine in…..new problems.

the weather finally got nice enough and chores put aside to start working on the 40 again. I welded in a patch where the RCR 40 had the starter plate cutout for a larger flywheel/block. First time welding aluminum and after two weeks or so of on and off practice I have much respect for these...

    289/302 and 351 Engine blocks

Just to clarify when I found the block several years ago it was a short block and after I looked it over I assumed it was a standard bore 1968 302. Later on I stripped it down to get it hot tanked and as I pulled it apart I realized it had all factory 289 internals, which I found odd so I...

    289/302 and 351 Engine blocks

Except that it had a factory 289 crank and factory 289 pistons and rods, so it had a 2.87 stroke. That’s why I believe Ford built a 289 with a 302 block back in the day. Either way block can be rebuilt as either a 289 or a 302.

    289/302 and 351 Engine blocks

Spring cleaning (even though we got snow this morning!!) and selling two engine blocks if anyone is looking for period correct look. First is a 1968 289. Block is standard bore that I stripped down. Has factory 289 crank and pistons. Block is cast with ‘302’ on it so I don’t know if that...

Safir starter clearance to frame? Starter hole cover plate from RCR.

Thanks for the reply Rod! Now I can move forward and weld up that hole. I also had to ‘modify’ my oil pan for the starter. Unfortunately I found other posts on here showing that I could have gotten an oil pan with the notch in it already. Will see if the ears survive when I drop the...

Safir starter clearance to frame? Starter hole cover plate from RCR.

In the manual yes it’s just the bell housing that touches the frame but they call it the starter clearance hole. I’m not sure what size block they had mocked up in it that they needed to cut the hole but it got cut bigger to fit the clearance plate they used to sell with the kit. Unfortunately...

Safir starter clearance to frame? Starter hole cover plate from RCR.

When I picked it up I assumed it was done for the starter clearance liked in the manual. I’d like to weld in some 1/4” aluminum plate in there if it doesn’t touch and I don’t need the clearance.

Safir starter clearance to frame? Starter hole cover plate from RCR.

I’ve tried searching forum but cant seem to find an answer. I’m looking to see if anyone had to cut into frame on the RCR gt40 with SBF and Safir bell housing/starter combo? I’m installing the drivetrain by myself with hoist and would really like to drop it in. I bought a floor model gt40 and...

Help mating zf and dart block!!

There was is very little stress on the plates as they are sandwiched between the bellhousing and the backing plate (both of which are aluminum) and the transaxle is bolted to the chasis. Due to the bell housing and backing plate being aluminum the spacer plates would corrode if I used steel.

    Ron McCall rebuilding ZF’s

I just wanted to make a post praising Ron McCall and his rebuilding service for the ZF transaxle. Everyone on here pretty much knows from others that Ron is the person to send your ZF to. I got the pleasure of driving down to his shop a couple of times and saw the piles of ZFs and parts plus...

Help mating zf and dart block!!

Yep I rechecked the bearing gap with the new shims. Funny the gap after adding 0.250” was only something like 0.280” (from memory) so the one shim brought it about 0.125” but if I never threw in the spacer plates the minimum gap would have been like 0.030”!!! The reason I didn’t cut the end of...

Help mating zf and dart block!!

Flywheel never moved from its original position. The original backing plate that came with the bell housing was mounted behind the flywheel, then my spacer plates were installed, then the bellhousing. So while the bellhousing itself is 0.250” further away from the starter the starter istelf is...

Help mating zf and dart block!!

Well anyone thats been following this thread I finally got back to working on the car after a long winter of cold weather and getting sick a few times!! I ended up making spacer plates out of 1/8 aluminum sheets. I wanted to do one out of 1/4” but all I got my hands on at the time were 1/8”...

Help mating zf and dart block!!

My crank has bushing now and the one that comes with the Safir kit is only I believe .393” off the top of my head or close to it where this one minus the flange is .594” which again is pushing me another .200” away from the block???
