Doug’s RCR Jaguar D Type Build.

Well, it’s been a few months since I was told my kit would be finished, but as I patiently await my D Type kit to be ready, I thought I would write a bit more about the upcoming project. My plan for this D Type is not a high horsepower (by antique Jaguar standards) track day car or weekend...

Thanks. I’m both optimistic and realistic.

Doug’s RCR Jaguar D Type Build.

Even though it’s not a GT40, I thought I would start my own build thread for my Race Car Replicas Jaguar D Type. This forum has some truly amazing people crafting perfect works of rolling art, and RCR is very prevalent in the GT40 world. This RCR D Type isn’t a rebuild or restoration of a Jag...

    Chuck's Jaguar D Type Build

I second that. What pushed me over the edge to place my order back in January was the fact that the RCR D Type was a low cost kit (compared to others and certainly compared to the originals) that wasn’t, as the article said, a “fiberglass D Type panels with the wrong lines laid over an old XJS...

    Chuck's Jaguar D Type Build

Great question. I too am curious to know Chucks plan. For my own D Type, I am not planning on replicating a specific historic Les Mans D Type, so I will be leaving it as is. In my researching, I’ve read that many D Type fins weren’t the same, even if they were on a long nose. Some were...

    Chuck's Jaguar D Type Build

Chuck, a battery question. Did the RCR design not allow for the battery to be in the ‘stock’ location under the bonnet? Or did your custom pedal and steering work prevent it from being installed there? Also, will it be covered up more to protect it from the elements? Fine work as always...

    Chuck's Jaguar D Type Build

Definitely valid point and I'll most likely do that. Alternator experimentation was an afterthought for the run stand, so I left the water pump belt setup as is. When I get my kit and the engine goes in, it'll get a redesign... assuming it actually works ok.

    Chuck's Jaguar D Type Build

As Chuck had written many pages ago, information sharing is the ultimate goal here. If I was skewing his build thread way off track, it wasn’t my intention. It also wasn’t my intention to have three posts and really big pictures, but my iPhone wasn’t behaving with the site for some reason, and...

Not sure what’s going on with my phone interface. Anyway, here are the other two pictures I tried to post earlier.

    Chuck's Jaguar D Type Build

This was touched on a few posts back, but I decided to take a bit of a chance and I bought a GM 35 amp mini alternator off of Amazon for about $60. It’s crazy small to say the least. I made a very temporary bracket setup on my engine to see how it performs when I finally get this thing running...

    Chuck's Jaguar D Type Build

Chuck, do you know what the hole in the cockpit between the two seats is for? I have seen it in both the original D Types and the RCR reproduction. I'm assuming it wasn't for disposing of candy bar wrappers during long races.

Chuck, if you have the fuel tank that comes with the D-Type kit, I would like to see a picture of them side by side for a size and shape comparison. Also, are you modifying or deleting the interior of the spare tyre boot to accommodate the different tank?

    Chuck's Jaguar D Type Build

Slight topic change since I’m on the downhill slope of my engine rebuild. What alternator were you planning on using? I’ve recently learned about ‘mini alternators’ that apparently are used in hot rods and more modern cars. I’m not going for a completely authentic look with my engine, so I’m...

    Chuck's Jaguar D Type Build

I was on the verge of getting the RCR wheels. I happened to be on the phone with Terrys Jaguar about something engine related, and it occurred to me to ask “Say, those 15” Dunlop rims... any chance I could get them in 16x6?” Turns out, they could do that, and for not much more than the 15”...

I’m assuming this isn’t exclusive to a spline drive setup. I’m going the ‘fake route’ with lugs and fake spinner.

    Chuck's Jaguar D Type Build

Chuck, I saw the Instagram post showing the fuel pump and pressure regulator that you're using. From the pictures, it looks like the pump is the Carter P4600HP and the regulator is an Aeromotive SKU 13222. Is that accurate? I'm planning on using a Triple Weber kit that is specifically jetted...

    Chuck's Jaguar D Type Build

From my studies and seeing it up close at RCR last month, I don't think there are too many options for alternator location other than towards the top of the exhaust manifold side. Given the similarities between the D and E Types, my current plan is to get an alternator bracket for a non air...

What are they called? How much? I couldn’t find them on the website posted in your profile.

    Roundel Lights?

Hello all. Can anyone tell me the proper name for the lights that are used on some older race cars to illuminate the number? I’ve done countless web searches and can’t find anyone who sells them. Guy on the phone at summit racing didn’t have a clue what I was on about. They look sorta like...
