    302 or 351W??? I'm driving myself nuts

Sorry, no video, Phillip. BTW, I posted this to show that a well built stroker worked out for my particular application and desires. But there is a lot to be said for the smaller stroke engines discussed as far as response, durability, and cost. I have a '71 911 with a built 327" SBC, AL...

    302 or 351W??? I'm driving myself nuts

I chose a 438" tall deck Windsor stroker with CHI (Cleveland) heads, built by Mckeown Motorsports. I paid extra for a lightweight rotating assembly, AL flywheel, & solid roller valvetrain so it revs nicely. Lots of power (630HP) and broad powerband (idles at 900rpm). I personally wanted a...

    McCopy mk 5

Beautiful work, Russell. To create the removable rear spoiler, it looks like you laminated over a wood core. Is this correct? If so, is the core balsa or another type of wood? Thank you for documenting your progress. I learn something useful every time I read your posts. Jack

    the Steinard MK3 takes shape

John, the color looks great! When I googled Audi Papaya Orange, it usually came up as a metallic color. Is it a basecoat/metallic clearcoat type? Also, I could not get to the Facebook video using the link you provided. Is there a trick I need to use to see it? Thanks. Jack

Gonna do it. Lotus Esprit SBF.

Cliff, I've owned 7 Esprits over the years, including a 2003 3.5L biturbo V8. That factory V8 Esprit handled the power and extra weight fine, although I could sense the extra engine weight (probably close to what your 331 setup weighs, given the twin turbos, plumbing, etc) behind me when I drove...

McLaren replica build base on a Manta

Thanks for the detailed reply, Terry. I bought the chassis already done, and as you said, there isn't much room around the C4 upright inside the wheel. I'll double check the upper ball joint clearance before I order, but I'm glad to know the extended ball joints should fit my front wheels. Jack

McLaren replica build base on a Manta

Hi Terry, I have a chassis with early C4 front uprights and 15" diameter wheels. Where did you buy the 0.5" extended length ball joints? And do you reckon that these extended ball joints would necessitate a larger diameter wheel to clear? (Sorry, I don't remember offhand what size front wheels...

Street and Track Car? Sub $40K?

I race a Shelby Can Am ASR in SCCA & HSR, and I also run a stock '02 C5 Z06 for track days. I experience about 75% of the fun of racing the real race car by driving the Z06 at track days with only 10% of the hassle and expense. Being able to drive to and from the track (in air conditioned...

    Paint protection Film

Hi Cobrajet, I, too, have been looking for a clear plastic windshield protector. Do you mind sharing the names of the products and/or manufacturers you mentioned finding at the SEMA show? The 3M paint protection film on my bodywork works well, and I'd like to avoid stone chips on my...

Torsional stiffness : Tube Steel Spaceframe

Hi Mark, Back in 2007, I asked a chassis engineer who helped design the Saleen S7 (tube frame w/ AL honeycomb cladding/stiffening panels) what sort of torsional stiffness increase would result from bonding/riveting the honeycomb panels to the tube frame. He answered that it depended on how...

    Input Shaft Alloy Advice

Thanks for the advice. Thus far, Mark Williams's quote for constructing the input shaft in 300M has been the most reasonable.

    Input Shaft Alloy Advice

I am mating a 1988 Lola Hewland Indycar gearbox to a stout Chevrolet V8 engine. Since I need to have a custom input shaft made, I have the opportunity to choose which alloy to use (4340 or 300M) for construction of the input shaft. Which alloy is preferable for this project, and why? Thanks, Jack
