    Exhaust Notes

Howard, I and several friends race Shelby Can Am racecars in SCCA and HSR. Two of the SCAs in our group have Chev V8s with the exhaust you asked about: dual 4 into 1 headers leading into a single exhaust with race muffler. They always pass the trackside noise meter tests even though one V8 is...

    M20 Dreaming

Thanks for the dimensions Leon: I've been in a lot of sports racers and I'm interested in the room the designers allow for the driver Jack

    M20 Dreaming

Beautiful work. Would you mind telling me the overall width of the passenger and driver seat areas, and the width of the driver's footwell (area around pedals)? Thanks. Jack

Right Hand Drive (RHD) in USA - Comments

I drove an SPF demo with LHD, didn't like it, and ordered mine with RHD/RHS. My SPF has the RH rod shift, and its so precise I'm sure you could speed shift it if you wanted(I don't). I've never had a problem driving my RHD car anywhere, and I can't imagine owning a GT40 without RHD/RHS. Jack

    Porsche 930 Transaxle Dimension

Terry, How deep is your dry sump LS oil pan? And how much shallower is it compared to a Corvette LS wet sump pan? I'm not as familiar with dimensions of LS engine oil pans as I am with SBC oil pans (obviously). Jack

    Fuel cell, fire system

Because we are such good customers, we have spent a lot of time talking with tech people at the fuel cell mfrs. About 5-6 yrs. ago they advised us about no lead race gas/pump gas aromatics attacking the plastic coating on fuel cell bladders at an accelerated rate vs. leaded race gas. Its...

    Fuel cell, fire system

Most of my fuel cell experience is with Shelby Can Ams. I share a garage with two other SCA racers and about eight total SCA racecars. We go through fuel cells often enough that we keep one on the shelf for the next leaker. I'd say a SCA fuel cell bladder lasts on average 7 years. They are a...

    Fuel cell, fire system

Ron, in my experience, every fuel cell older than 5 years is at risk of leaking. And they ALL will leak by a few years thereafter. The only indication you get is a pool of gasoline under your racecar one day. Time to write a check for $1500.00 or so and begin the not inconsequential job of...

how are these to drive(not race)

The SPF street GT40s have sturdy steel self-contained gas tanks inside the original design side sills(which are of sturdy steel ribbed design themselves) which the original GT40 race cars did not have. While the SPF GT40 street car fuel tanks don't have ballistic fuel cell bladders the SPF GT40...

McLaren replica build base on a Manta

Terry, I really enjoyed watching your YouTube videos of the Mclaren build, thanks for posting them. Your 180 degree headers look fantastic, and I can tell you the sound will be one of your favorite things about driving your car Jack

    IMSA Fiero Race car

I know that exact spot on the track: during qualifying last year, a Riley and Scott WSC ground effects car shot into that apex as I was going through there flat out(120+mph). I never saw him, and we came within millimeters of colliding and a BAD accident. I was forced out over the bump you...

    IMSA Fiero Race car

I run a Shelby Can Am in HSR, and Watkins Glen is my favorite track. Our cars weights and tire sizes are almost identical, but my 3.3L. V6 is not as powerful as your LS6(maybe 260 hp to rear wheels). 2:05s-2:10s are very respectable times at Watkins Glen: your car must be handling pretty well...

    IMSA Fiero Race car

Dave, The chassis and suspension looks substantial enough to last for years of track days and NASA events. And it ought to protect you well in an accident. I love those uprights. Are they still available? Jack

    Non-syncromesh with helical teeth?

Dave, Thanks for the informative post: I especially appreciate the link about the 930 trans. rebuild. BTW, I own an '88 Lola Indycar gearbox that is DGB based. The extra wide gears look beefy, but the LSD in it(used for Indycar road races)looks positively tiny. I'm surprised that it could...
