    Performing Alignments

Ron: Check out what Longacre offers. I really like the Dunlop gauge, but have had equal success with a string and level, which we had to do in the pits. But this caster/camber gauge Longacre offers looks like it would be very handy: Longacre Racing - Digital No Sweep Caster Camber Gauge A...

    Gold Cup Races at VIR

Anyone going to the Gold Cup races on June 8, 9 and 10 at VIR? Just wondering because I'm thinking about hauling mine to the track. Sasco is installing new Avons on the car . . . yippie. After that, it would be nice to park with some other GT40s. Looking forward to the festivities, cars and...

    Gt40mkii

The aluminum boxes were, as mentioned, to accept the spec FIA suite case and a spare tire. We used a collapsable spare in the MKIV. Don't remember what was used in '66. I believe the FIA dropped the requirement after the '67 LeMans race.

    Chassis Torsional Stiffness

To give you all some reference, the 75 pound tub of the Mk IV GT40 had a torsional rigidity of just a bit over 10,000 ft-lb/degree of twist. Having done a fair amount of chassis bending and twist tests, there comes a point that more doesn't give any benefit. As for the "Flexy Flier" argument...

    Spiroloxs

I'll take wire locks over spiro locks or TruArcs any day. Just be aware that the pins must have 45 degree X 0.040-in. chamfers at each end.

    wheel rates for springs ,shocks.

Russ: You're right, ride frequencies come first, which is a factor of static deflection. Once you have static deflection, you'll need curb weight at each corner. With that you can calculate wheel rate, or weight divided by how much the wheel moves from full droop to ride height. With wheel...

    What do you saftey wire?

John: Safety anything you don't want to come loose or you'd like to visibly check if the fastener has loosened such as wheel knock-offs. Where it's not practical to use nylocks or other locking devices on critical nuts or bolts such as steering and suspension components, wire them. Not so easy...

Z Bar instead of Anti Roll Bar?

Ian: Don't even think about using a Z-bar on an SLA suspension. This is based on fact, not theory. The Z-bar prevents jacking up of the outside suspension while cornering with a high roll-center swing-axle suspension such as that used on the F-Vs and early Corvairs. This was accomplished by...

    Ideas on shaping aluminum

Brian: I haven't read all the posts, so I'll probably repeat some of what's already been said. But the best thing you can get for shaping aluminum or any sheet metal is Ron Fournier's book "Metal Fabricator's Handbook". It's loaded with something we all need . . . information. As was said, the...
