    Understanding Spring Rates

Ross, If your springs come off the seats ( spring seat release) it would not be a good thing as your car rolls in a turn, effectively your inside wheel is doing nothing. The reason that ARB are used is so the inside wheel has some grip. To counter spring seat release as in your case you would...

Flywheel and Clutch - Original Spec

look at the proportions and shape of the lug on # 908 and compare with the pantera photo and the parts sheet - totally different. I would also suggest that the absence of the hole in the parts sheet is just that and not an indication that it is a blind hole

Flywheel and Clutch - Original Spec

ZF #908 appears to be a thru bolt and when box inverted it would be in the position of the photo which is a threaded connection ZF # 918 appears to be threaded a mystery someone will know and I am not sure that the info that I have is definitive in this area

Flywheel and Clutch - Original Spec

I did not make the connection between the angled bolts and "lateral" my recollection is that these were added at some later time by ZF to counter breakage and discontinued on -2 models I also do not think that they were initially used on pre production cars (P XXX ) when they changed over...

Flywheel and Clutch - Original Spec

The scoop you refer to is actually at the top, the two lugs at the bottom with silentbloc bush bolt to the bottom of the horse collar. Very early housings did not have the lower mounts. There were no lateral bolts in any of them. I have more info on most variations if you need

Russ, making the coreprint larger surface once outside the casting is what I was referring to. This can be independant of the actual hole in the casting left by the core. It is not uncommon to join them up with a trench in the core box hence providing a larger and more stable core print.. In...

    Torque wrench spec strips threads

Ross, how long is it since you had your torque wrench calibrated Check the thread of the bolt, plated bolt can have irregularities in the plating finish, lightly buff on a wire buff it need be always use a lubricant on the threads, old fashioned machine oil is suffice for small bolts

Russ, why a split pattern , that is a very simple item to hand mould , put a groove across the end of the core prints on the parting line to give the moulder an accurate guide. Good Old casting plaster to form the female mould is pretty easy and much easier to correct the double shrinkage...

    Kiwi scratchbuilt

Even if he does not have a split pattern it can be hand moulded , there are plenty of core prints , unless he is then using the fibreglass mould to make the core box by laying up in the female mould (cast from the wooden pattern ) the thickness of the finished casting and then making the core.

Russ why are you making a fibreglass mould, why dont you use the wooden pattern that you have made if it was a production pattern from which many castings would be made yes , but not for a limited run we have used plastic patterns (from a 3D printer) for limited runs

Re: 4 Cam 255 Indy Engine out of chassis #103. Looking for additional info. Jim, you may be correct, I had seen references to "255 Indy" engine in 103 when it left the factory. I have not checked where I have that but it is "somewhere" and I cant recall the source. It may have been in the...

Engine out of chassis #103. Looking for additional info.

Re: 4 Cam 255 Indy Engine out of chassis #103. Looking for additional info. I believe history will indicate that 103 was originally built with a 4 Cam engine and was fitted with a SBF 289 for 1964 Nassau. Shelby then fitted one of his SBF 289 in about 1965 and with modified Colotti box. In...

    Jokes anyone? -

It was the mailman's last day on the job after 35 years of carrying the mail through all kinds of weather to the same neighbourhood. When he arrived at the first house on his route he was greeted by the whole family there, who congratulated him and sent him on his way with a big gift envelope...
