    SL-C Kit Spec in Australia

Craig, reading thru the SLC spec posted above raises a couple of questions.. Basic suspension alignment performed with ADR compliant bump steer. and ADR test documentation for chassis, body, suspension etc. Standard street chassis has torsional stiffness of 25500 Nm/deg/M. Suspension...

    Axles - floating or not?

PAGE 7 - OF THE GKN PDF. right hand side are plunging joints as does a tripod joint, the form may be different , just a variation on a theme so to speak. LHS of page is True CV joint. A true CV joint has no plunge facility and if using this type then axles MUST float

    Axles - floating or not?

Cliff, no problem will provide any info It is apparent from above thread content that the 930 CV is intended to have movement between the inner race and the outer race and looking at the images the CV is in essence a tripod joint with three pairs of 2 balls. i.e. not a true CV.

    Axles - floating or not?

Andrew, why dont you get a hold of a 930 manual and follow it you have all 930 bits

The Festival of Sports cars Bathurst.

Tim, yes there was a bit of feathering going on across the top. left foot braking going down the wiggly bits is a plus - also scary but quick not the place to use it if not proficient at left foot braking though !! You can see that it is up the hill across the top and down the wiggly bits is...

The Festival of Sports cars Bathurst.

Tim, you just need bigger ones !!! and remember that the one on the right is the accelerator -:) I have done the odd lap or two around bathurst and it is a demanding track but oh so sweet if you master it as very few have done ( I am not one of them I was 5sec slower than last year!!) You...

    Axles - floating or not?

Cliff, I guess it depends on the shaft material and any hardening. I recently made two new shafts as the original broke. (standing starts in Oz!!) The original was a manganese steel with induction hardened splines and ground over the full length of the shaft. There was no discernible wear in...

    Axles - floating or not?

depends on CV type, I should have qualified what I posted, however, some CV are made to "plunge" within themself some are not. They are more correctly described as TRIPOD joints having 3 balls only wherein the outer race has three semicircular straight tracks. A true CV joint (RZEPPA) is not...

    Axles - floating or not?

Yes Andrew, as the suspension travels thru its up and down motion the axles will need to float. Some CV locate on OD of spline, some locate on ID of spline. you can check this from your sample axle and make your new axles the same way. If they locate on OD of spline you could have the axles...

Aus GT at Melbourne Grand Prix

Tim, next time you do a rolling start a light pressure on the brake pedal will control your speed rather than on and off the go pedal. bring your wets to Bathurst, see you there

    Kiwi scratchbuilt

Russ, throw away the electric pressure gauge. use an old fashioned mechanical gauge and run a 1/4 or 5/16 pressure line in the car reducing down to the normal 1/8 pressure gauge line at the inside kick panel. you can see in the photo there is also the oil pressure switch for the fuel pumps...

The Price of Transaxles - Why are Transaxles Expensive?

Wanni ""make your choice and pay the money"" meaning -- choose what you want to buy and pay the money ""no one is rich enough to afford rubbish"" meaning -- if you buy rubbish it not last and you have to buy again and again and again. I am not saying your product is rubbish, I am...

The Price of Transaxles - Why are Transaxles Expensive?

The "economics 101 lesson" forgot one thing, plant maintenance tool replacement, machine replacement. These things dont last forever. So what if Wanni designed a transaxle and got somebody to build it, I say good on him. This is similar to what I do, I design things, people build them, I...

    Latest on AF Airbus crash

Mike, the way I read it is that it started to free fall at minute 3. (minute 2 loss of control) Arnoux maths dont work If he said impact at 91m/s not 95mph it would make more sense. What he proposes - that the aircraft fell from 11000 m and hit the deck at 95 MPH !!! It must...

    Latest on AF Airbus crash

David, the zero knots I was referring to is not KIAS, I meant relative to ground vertically, the aircraft would still have some forward speed at stall , but I assumed zero vertical speed when it stalled. The aircraft would accelerate vertically until it reached terminal velocity after...

    Latest on AF Airbus crash

A free falling body under gravity falls at the rate of 9.81 m/s/s. From 11000 m and assuming the aircraft stalled at Zero knots say The aircraft would hit the water with a velocity of approx 464 m/s in ~50 secs. This does not allow for any wind resistance or the aircraft "gliding" which would...
