With the increasing ethanol in pump fuel, I need to be sure that whatever I use won't degrade from the inside-out. This stuff appears to meet the spec:- https://www.carbuilder.com/uk/ethanol-proof-fuel-hose-10mm-38 I see that Speedflow recommend Teflon-lined hose, owing to the inability of...

Thanks, Neil - I'll look into those straight away. I should add that these are on the lift side of the pump, and I was planning crimp fittings....as I also don't like hose clamps! I'm still unclear about how the 10mm fuel hose I am using will interface to an AN-6 tapered fitting - I had thought...

    Southern GT #48

Cut up some large box-section aluminium I have had kicking about the garage from a car build more than 15 years ago, and made some end-plates and tubular bosses for coolant header tank. Have ordered a weld-on filler neck and 13psi cap; will ask a mate to TIG the lot together when the neck & cap...

Sorry - I thought that the steel tie rod was a steering arm, and that I was looking at the front suspension.

    Scott T's build - Safir GT40

Best first two posts ever.....! Can't wait to see photos of getting her home and the recommissioning process.

Looking good - what does that give you? I think you want to start at 5 degrees, and have the ability to add a little more caster (so you have a range of 5 to 10 degrees) rather than removing caster (giving you 5 to zero degrees). These cars are light on the front-end.

    Powerlite RAC407 starter motor

Oooh...you are saucy! Bill was, of course, correct. Simply remove the two socket-head screws, rotate the starter in the aluminium adapter and replace the screws. Now I know where my starter cable and solenoid cable need to be located (currently drawing up the loom).

    Powerlite RAC407 starter motor

Now that I look again at the last pic, and see the socket head capscrew, it's kinda obvious, isn't it? Give me ten minutes to finish work and I'll pop out to the garage again.

    Powerlite RAC407 starter motor

Here's the issue - the motor body contacts the block at A, before the machined aluminium housing fits into the adaptor plate recess at B:-

Wiper Motor Blows Fuse When Park Connected

Or a switch which in the off position, connects Park to the Slow speed pin. https://www.s-v-c.co.uk/wiper-systems/ This way, when you switch off the wipers, your motor continues to receive power to the low speed circuit, until the wiper arm reaches the "home" position at which point the...

    M4 cortina rack

Should be 9/16" x 36 spline, I think, so you'd need one of these:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281856251029

    Powerlite RAC407 starter motor

Hi all I am just test-fitting this unit to my 302 / adaptor plate / UN-1 combination, and it fouls the engine block...just slightly. I'll try and get a photo later, but has anyone else had to relieve the block to get one of these units to fit correctly? Thanks, Eddy

Others might chime in here (@wealdenengineer , @Jim C maybe...?) but you might wish to start with around 5 or 6 degree caster as the mid-point setting, with the ability to add or remove a couple of degrees. Take a look in the "Tech - chass / brakes / tyres / wheels" sub-forum:-...

    What we miss in lockdown

A girl I grew up with did an average 104mph TT lap on a production 250 in the early '90s, and a few years later a 108mph average on a proper race 250. The place still scares the beejesus out of me, though. I managed 9 minutes-odd round the Nurburgring a couple of times on my Ducati...still got a...

    Alans Scratch build

I was talking about caster angle...the upper balljoint being slightly rearward of the lower balljoint...giving some steering stability and self-centering effect. One way to make this adjustable would be to make provision for spacers here:- To allow for the upper arm to be moved rearwards to...

Registration of a new build GT.

Hi Stephen - Thanks...I saw all the pre-sale photos and auction pics, just wanted some more photos now that Simon has his grubby mitts on the car! :) My view is that there are two separate hurdles:- 1. IVA - this is simple (no, really!)...go through the car with the IVA compliance manual in...

    Alans Scratch build

Hi Alan Hard to see from the pics, but is the upper balljoint slightly ahead of the lower balljoint? I think you want it slightly behind, to give you some caster angle. Eddy
