    17" wheel sadness

Re: 17\" wheel sadness Hi Al, Just got back from having the wheels and tires re-balanced with the Road Force balancer. We managed to get them within reasonable specs. The one front wheel is .030" out of round. The back ones had .055" wobble. Something I'd expect from Walmart or at a Blue...

    17" wheel sadness

Re: 17\" wheel sadness Howard, When the wheels arrived originally the center section was not tall enough (thick enough) to allow you to tighten the center spinner. I return shipped the wheels and got ERA to send him a drawing. His claim was he only makes one wheel for all ERAs. Well my...

    17" wheel sadness

Re: 17\" wheel sadness Mine are pin drive or knock-offs or knock-ons if you're on the other side of the big pond. You can see how the center web section was welded to the 10" wide wheel section. I almost believe it's distorted because of a continuous weld that caused the center to be not...

    17" wheel sadness

Re: 17\" wheel sadness Hi Al, Thanks for the info. Really not all that conforting knowing I paid $800 a piece for wheels the Ford would j-u-s-t allow in at the bad end of the specs. Not really what I was planning on since I want to run these at top speed. Guess I can try them at 180 and see...

    17" wheel sadness

17\" wheel sadness Has anyone ever measured the run-out of their wheels? I think I'll be making a new coffee table out of my rear wheels. Bought a new set of 17" wheels because as we all know there is no high speed rubber available for 15" wheels (unless you go for bias ply racing slicks)...

    U.S. GT40 Racing Association

Well I must say I AM under-whelmed. Running a Cobra/Pantera/GT40 class under sanction of a club would be OK to me. I'll check our local Cobra group to see if anyone there is interested. If we can stir up enough interest in owners of the 3 marques we might convince a club to sanction us. The...

Pantera cousins are welcome, too. Seems appropriate for the class. I mean IMHO.

    U.S. GT40 Racing Association

Can we start one? Would there be enough interest to afford to rent tracks? We could keep it sane with a vintage racing rule. You hit someone you fix their car. Let's you race as fast as you want. You just have to be a bit more conservative in a passing situation. You can't do a NASCAR punt...

any 40 racing in the States?

Gee guys, that sounds pretty gloomy. I thought CAV or Superformance was trying to form a GT40 race group, event or even take a shot a homologation. That's not a proper fate for a car that loves to be driven hard.

any 40 racing in the States?

Are GT40s allowed to race in any series in the US? I have heard different people were working on setting up a series or homologation. I'm wondering who is allowing what these days. Thanks, Mark

    Watkins Glen info?

I'm taking my GT40 and I'm not racing. I should have the final power tune done on the car by then but the tires are only my "sorting and show" tires and are not worthy of the Glen. I was hoping to get a lap or two in to see how my baby sounds at high tune. Nada for non-racers? Grumble. Then...

Carlisle Import Kit / Replicar Nationals

[ QUOTE ] At any rate, where did you place in the competition ?? [/ QUOTE ] I got 4 out of 5 commendations. They were actually looking for concours so I was quite happy with 4. They hit me for dirt on the door weatherstrip and I left the oil cooler disconnected until I get the break-in...

Carlisle Import Kit / Replicar Nationals

It was great to meet all you guys. Craig, Fran, the folks at Superformance Justin, Dean, Judd and his dad. Nice work on the Superformance MkII. Can't wait to see it at speed. I was up to my "Smiling Bob" routine most of the weekend. Someone took this picture of some hillbilly high on hooch...

    Crossover vs non crossover

[ QUOTE ] What is the advantage, if any, this set up? Looking at pictures in my GT40 books it appears that it is not done to equalize the tube lengths. I have heard that the exhaust note will be different. [/ QUOTE ] I have heard numbers in the range of a 20 to 40 hp improvement with the...

Carlisle Import Kit / Replicar Nationals

I'm bringing the black monster to be on display with the factory ERA cars. I've also entered the excellence contest to see how I stack up with the rest of the best. I'm excited. Please stop by the ERA exhibit and say Hi. Mark

Carlisle All Ford National June 3-5

I will be there both weekends. I'm going to check with Peter from ERA to see if he's going. He wanted me in his exhibit for the kit/replicar weekend. If he's going to the Ford National I may put my car with his factory cars again. Mark
