    Flat Plane Crank LS1

found you a deal troy, jump on it :) LS1 / 4l60e swap from '00 trans am you can get all the sensors/harness/oilpan from that. sell off the accessories for 400, and trans for 400 and the longblock for 500-600 and you'll get all the stuff you need for nothing practically :)

    Flat Plane Crank LS1

before you get the wiring harness, need to know what reluctor wheel you are putting on the crank, 24x or 58x? that's going to dictate ecu. Also one other thought which I have no clue on. is a flat plane crank dimensionally the same as a regular crank from a circumference perspective? I ask...

    Rumbles SLC Build

Re: SD vs MAF Engine Mgt Fair points above. I wouldn't say SD is for track only though, I would run it on the street without issue and have driven several cars that are that way. The throttle response is much crisper with SD vs MAF in my opinion, do some searching on driveability and...

i hear you, iron block combo is the biggest bang for the buck, no argument from me as I have one of the combos in my camaro. My only thought on still pushing an aluminum recommendation is I assume Fran designed/tuned the suspension based on the aluminum engine being back there. Not sure if...

I would work with AI on the compression and follow their advice. They won't steer you wrong based on what you want.

good point, i excluded these because they are iron blocks. The weight difference is around 100-120lbs if I recall.

    Flat Plane Crank LS1

you can run a bit more compression. I was running 11.75:1 on 93 pump gas without issues. I was running 233/241 .600/.600 lift cam (this was on a lt1 355 engine) and street driven regularly.

there is a cheaper way to put it together too if you don't mind doing a little more searching and understanding how/what can be put together. I'll admit there are a lot of nuances that get in the way, but it's nothing someone hasn't solved already. whether it's 24x vs 58x, dbw vs. cable...

    Flat Plane Crank LS1

i asked earlier in this thread about the accessories, the CTS-V is what people are saying. go to pace performance and they are about $800 for everything new. As for the custom cam, email AI and let them know what you are doing and link them to your ls1tech thread. they are sponsors over there...

    Flat Plane Crank LS1

the 2004 GTOs had LS1s, so you're not getting anything special there. I believe the 2005 went to the LS6 motor, and that is a good base to start from. But...since you are providing the rotating assembly, it would be ideal to get a blown motor with all the accessories and sensors so that...

    Flat Plane Crank LS1

troy, you may want to reach out to these guys on the valvetrain/heads question. If I was buying a set of worked LS heads, these would be the guys I call. Advanced Induction - LSx Performance Parts you can talk to Phil about your cam potentially too.

HP tuners is what I have. I bought the pro version because of the wideband capability and that is the only difference between the two options. It is easy to use and their forums have good support and tips.

    Flat Plane Crank LS1

For the pcm, all you need to do is repin the firing order at the pcm, its that easy. Ive done it to use a 411pcm to run a lt1 engine which has a different firing order

    Flat Plane Crank LS1

I'm wondering if you could just get a flat plane shortblock from lingenfelter or kurt urban, that way they assemble it completely?

    Flat Plane Crank LS1

just got home :). If you are going to replace the rotating assembly 100% at the beginning, then don't buy a complete engine, you can get a used aluminum block for a few hundred dollars. There is no point in spending 2k+ for a running ls1 that you will only be keeping the block. The recovery...

    Flat Plane Crank LS1

lkq salisbury (north carolina) has some l33 for 800-1000. not sure how far that is for you. car-part.com pick a 2005 silverado 1500 and choose option l33 for engine with your zip code. edit: this is what you're looking for in the description , VIN B (8TH DIGIT, OPT L33) 2k for a 98 is...

    Flat Plane Crank LS1

just to give you an idea what is possible with the l33. This guy has run 8sec quarter on a stock l33 (he swapped out the gaskets for ls9 gaskets and ARP head studs to hold it all down with boost) I think in final trim he pushed it to 1000 rwhp. L33 RX7 686rwhp Dyno - YouTube skinnies rx7 -...

    Flat Plane Crank LS1

the best motor in the bunch is really the l33 for the money. for $2500 or less including engine, I'm confident I can get the L33 to make just as much power as a stock $7000 ls3. The l33 makes more power than a ls1 and the heads are the same that were on a z06. l33 stock were 305-335 if i...
