    GT40 Restoration Site

Not only over-restored but why invest in this level of detail and not make the parts available to replica manufacturers. I mean it really IS basically a replica built around the barest bones of an original. Brings up all the philosophical questions regarding preservation, restoring, rebuilding...

    Confused...

And the US dealers go by names like "Florida Advanced Vehicles" too. It's all a play on Ford's original "Ford Advanced Vehicles" which developed the original car.

USA GT40...can anyone give me info?

Thanks, the car I'm looking at is a tube-frame so was wondering about it like...are the mono mechanicals interchangeable with the tube-frame etc...I was going to e-mail CAV but the brain trust here is quicker and able to unscramble stuff quickly. Is it correct that the original tube-frame CAV...

Wayne, is your CAV a tube-frame or a monocoque and when did they change from the former to the latter?

There's a ton of good information here but now I'm on overload. Of course one thing I've learned in the world of custom cars...

    Best in real life

These are some pictures I took of my Porsche...I would guess that something along these lines would be awesome with a GT40. I cant wait (well actually I'm going to have to) to get one to shoot. If any of the manufacturers are reading...I own a graphic design company and we do Nissan and Taco...

    replica: most reliable??

Basically I mean "...well if Ford can get $150k...we can" Hopefully not but I wonder if the niche will become a market when the affluent young guys playing video games with GT40s in them and reading about the Ford GT find out they can get a finished one for about the same cost as a Porsche 996.

    replica: most reliable??

Since I became interested in CAVs, I've watched the sales of four cars on the internet. Two were imported and finished by a company called Cherner Classics and the first one sold for exactly what they were asking ($75k) and they have one on ebay now which they want $79k for and it's at $55k...

    Can we talk performance numbers?...

er, posted before reading the topic "how fast is your GT40"...sorry for the redundancy.

    Can we talk performance numbers?...

First of all, I've read several conflicting things about what a suitable HP for a GT40 is. Obviously if you just keep putting HP up the wazoo you'll end up with a car that spins its wheels, snap-oversteers and breaks transaxles and has all sorts of extra wear. It APPEARS that a good HP number is...

    Paint

Good advice Dave, I used to work for a restoration shop and I agree that it's not a PARTICULARLY difficult skill BUT it IS a skill and has to be learned and most of it is in the preparation and attention to cleanliness and using the right equipment and a proper spray booth. I agree, take time...

Anyone deal with or know anything about "Cherner Classics" in the US?

They are finishing CAVs and selling them via ebay and the auto-trader. Wondering if anyone knows anything about them. Cherner Classics

So how many miles have you driven your GT40...

Yes, as I was going to set out for a drive to San Luis Obispo today and the high temperature was going to be 88 degrees, I added a note to my files. MUST have A/C. Think I wore down Robin Lacey because he stopped returning e-mails and hasn't returned my call Hard to go into something like...
