    Audi A8 2.5 TDI 5HP-19 (FNL)

You definitely would not use the 5HP-19 period. This is a very weak trans. It is basically the same as was used in the early tiptronic Porsches. I learned about this trans when the one in my wife's A6 2.7L bi-turbo went out. The rated torque output is the same as this engine makes stock and it...

    G50 01 workshop manuals

I have most Porsche manuals as pdf's so if you can tell my what year you's is I can send you the correct 911 manual. I think a G50-01 would be 1987-1989. This manual is 277mb so I may need to send you a CD. Send me a PM. Pete

    8mm DRIVESHAFT BOLTS

The bolts need to be dry or only have Loctite on them. Also, it is very important to have the mounting surfaces between the CV's and the flanges clean as well. You can loose a huge amount of clamping force with greasy flanges. Here is an excerpt from a 911 forum I found a while back: 100 mm...

    944 tran's gear lever & cables?

You can use 924/924s/944 axles. The shift mech is the same an all of them as well. The 944 transaxle does not have the provision for a clutch fork, slave cylinder or pilot bearing.

    944 transaxle

You need to know what 944 transaxle you are looking at. The 944 non turbo/non S or S2 (along with 81-84 924 turbo) is the same as your 016. They have the same 1st-5th ratios and a 3.89 ring & pinion. however the input shaft is larger in diameter. The S and S2 & turbo have a ring and pinion...

    Auto box on GT 40?

You might also look at the 5 speed auto used in the AUDI A6. My wife's 2001 2.7L Biturbo has a 5 spd Tiptronic. I would think it wouldn't be too difficult to adapt a paddle shift to this.

    Audi 2.7TDI transaxle

    I'm not certain about the 2.7 TDI but the A6 2.7 BiTurbo (250HP/250Ft.Lbs) uses the 01E 6 speed. My wife's A6 2.7 BiTurbo is a Tiptronic 5 speed auto.

    audi automatic transaxil!

AUDI used a 5 spd tiptronic in the A6's. Usually autos can be built to take significantly higher torque over stock than manuals can. This is partly due to the fluid coupling characteristics of the torque converter. I know of a guy that has a 350 chevy in his automatic 944 and is now building a...

    Audi 016,Porsche 944,Re-spline of 016

Re: Audi 016 goes Bang! The 944 spline is 1" x 23 and is very common. You can get discs from 8.5" to 12". (215mm - 305mm) Late model Mustangs use the smaller one and 60's-70's Chrysler products use the larger ones.

    Audi 016,Porsche 944,Re-spline of 016

Re: Audi 016 goes Bang! I finally got a chance to measure the 944 transaxle input shaft. It protrudes out of the bell housing surface 1 5/8" and the splined part is 2 9/16" long. I believe the AUDI shaft protrudes about 1/2" so the 944 shaft is a little over 1" longer. The 944 splines are...

The Price of Transaxles - Why are Transaxles Expensive?

I don't know if I can agree. I think that the bigger they get the more unreasonable they get on this subject. When they get as big as Quaife or Getrag they are beyond reasonable economics. Case in point, the company I work for (one of the largest in manufacturing ice and beverage dispensing...

    Audi 016,Porsche 944,Re-spline of 016

Re: Audi 016 goes Bang! The 944 turbo has a 1" x 23 spline. Clutch discs are avaliable from 8.5" up to 12". The shaft may be longer. I don't have any AUDI input shafts to compare to the Porsche ones I have. I have an assembled 944 gearbox in the garage so I can measure the shaft length in...

    Audi 016,Porsche 944,Re-spline of 016

Re: Audi 016 goes Bang! I just remembered something..... The early 944 gearboxes (82-85/1) are known to do the same thing to the ring and pinion on very high mileage cars. So I wonder if the ring and pinions in the 016 are subject to fatigue after they have high miles? I've seen a couple...

    Audi 016,Porsche 944,Re-spline of 016

Re: Audi 016 goes Bang! The early 924 shaft is like the 944 in the fact that it is longer and does not have a pilot bearing area machined on the end. Otherwise it is identacle to the AUDI 016. The difference is the section that protrudes out past the seal is necked down on the early 924 and...

    Porsche 944 Turbo Transaxle

There are discs available up to 12" with the 1" x 23 spline. The splines are rolled into the shaft so that is why the splines cannot be lengthened. It is possible that the AUDI input shaft could be fitted to the 951 gearbox as the 951 ring and pinion is retrofitable into the AUDI box. It...

    Audi 016,Porsche 944,Re-spline of 016

Re: Audi 016 goes Bang! RacerDave, what you have copied is for using a 951 ring and pinion in the AUDI gearbox. I am suggesting using the 951 gearbox and just swapping the front AUDI case so you get the benifit of the entire 951 gearbox, not just the ring and pinion. Insidently, I should add to...

    Audi 016,Porsche 944,Re-spline of 016

Re: Audi 016 goes Bang! The 951 gearbox doesn't have the provision for the slave cylinder and it does not have a pilot bearing area machined into the tip of the input shaft. To use the AUDI case you need to open the area for the ring gear slightly (the 951 ring gear is .118" larger than the...

    Audi 016,Porsche 944,Re-spline of 016

Re: Audi 016 goes Bang! Here is one of the cars using a 951 (944 turbo) transaxle. Look at the second post, the one from Michael B. This is a supercharged LS1 powered car...
