    Noob questions

Understand about the roll cage & "race car only" nature of the R -- but I was under the impression that the OP wanted exactly that and was planning on trailering the car to track days.

    Noob questions

Given that you're looking for a track car, did consider the GT40R version from Pathfinder?

Gt40's on the block this weekend

I hunted up the Octane article online & the value estimates are silly by today's standards, even though it was published only 2 years ago. 1075 was valued at 3MM Sterling (Mercedes 300SLR at 30MM sterling by comparison). And no mention of the Foyt/Gurney Mk IV, which I'd put in the top echelon.

    Monterey??

Next year Cobra is the featured marque, celebrating the 50th anniversary (yikes). Hopefully this will draw some GT40s as well.

    Monterey??

Sad to say I'm going to miss it this year after 11 straight. Hope the attendees here will be generous with their photo postings.

Mark II GT40's at Daytona 1967

I have no hard information on the matter, but I doubt anyone got sued -- people/companies weren't as quick to holler for their lawyers every time something went wrong back then.

    MKII 1966 le mans winner

I remember seeing this car at my first Monterey Historics in 97 and being stunned that such a famous car was just sitting under at canopy in the paddock, shortly to be wrung out on the track by Brian Redman. If i recall, there was an interesting history to the car, it having been converted to...

Mk I, II, III, IV, and Prototype Spyder!

Jim Clark's 65 Lotus 38 was in similar shape for decades at the Ford museum before being thoroughly restored (to running condition -- see YouTube - Goodwood Festival of Speed 2010 - Jim Clarkss 38/1 Lotus ) this year, so maybe there's hope for J5

    Current State of GT40 Market

To the extent you believe auctions represent market value (including buyer & seller premiums), there's an Gulf SPF Mk I with a Roush motor & ZF trans listed at Russo & Steele for the Monterey auction in August. Assuming the reserve is met, that will provide at least one data point for that...

"To FE or not to FE...

Do I understand that you have the rod shift option in LHD/center shift configuration? I was under the impression that the rod shift linkage was only available for the RHD/right shift configuration

Blue and Orange - A recent Fortyfication Article by Sam Cork

According to Lance at Superformance, the Gulf paint scheme costs more than other colors due to fees paid to Gulf for the use of the livery. Don't know if that refers only to the paint scheme or use of other Gulf intellectual property.

GT40/R Wins at US Vintage Grand Prix - Watkins Glen

If its the one I think it is, its owned by Jim Click of Tucson AZ, who's raced it at Monterey on a number of occasions, though unfortunately not recently.

    Has anybody read this book?

This thread prompted me to reread the Levine book (for the nth time). Its still a great read, 40 years after it was published. Sort of sad though, since so many of the featured characters -- many of whom became heroes of mine -- are gone, or soon will be. Consider this -- when it was written...

    Has anybody read this book?

The original has been out of print for decades, but is still often findable on Ebay or Alibris.com. The book was reissued in 2001 by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and is still sold by them at Book Search Results - SAE BOOKSTORE. Only problem with the reissue is that the photos...

What is the most historically accurate replica/kit currently being produced?

I'm surprised that, given your interest in accuracy and the history of the cars, you don't appear to be famiilar with Holman Moody, which ran one of the two GT 40 teams at Le Mans (3rd in 66) and elsewhere.

Very helpful and encouraging information -- thanks to all that replied.

    Changing pedal location

Is it possible to adjust the pedals individually? I crawled around a MK II at Monterey this past weekend and found that while the overall position of the pedals was just fine, the relationship between the accelerator and brake was such that heel & toeing would be almost impossible.

    Monterey Historics

I'll be there and hope to get a chance to see some of your 40s, particularly those of the SPF persuasion, up close. I came close to pulling the trigger after last year's event but didn't due to financial events beyond my control. I'm getting the itch again though. Now if I could only get...

    Has anybody read this book?

I thought it was ok, but nowhere close to Leo Levine's Ford: the Dust and the Glory (from which it appears to borrow liberally). If you're a John Surtees fan, you'll love it -- a fair portion of the book is an encomium to him.
