    Wow, this is very exciting!

    GT40 side impact protection

The GT is very nice, and I like the shape a lot. I still, however, like the original shape of the GT40 much better, in particular the MK2. The curves, the aspect ratios, the wheel sizes, it all just fits together so well. I would not want to change any of the relative measurements. The GT's...

    GT40 side impact protection

I have seen that build before, but it's unfortunately not scaled up equiaxially, meaning the shape isn't self-similar to the original one. The price is just silly. I will have to keep looking around ;) Thanks everyone for their posts.

    GT40 side impact protection

There is indeed is somebody out there that is in the same boat I'm in and understands my problem! 2:10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UAnlMNvK8Y I never wanted to be shorter ever before in my life! The Ford GT is still small, although much better. I still think a 15-20% scaled up original...

    GT40 side impact protection

Pat, you are taking things out of context in an attempt to have a go at me. I am a huge GT40 fan and I was planning to build a GT40 replica for many years, long before I joined the forum. I had a close look at a number of amazing builds, a big thanks here to the gents whose projects I got to...

Thank you for sharing this with us here. Could you be so kind as to post some images of that mechanism?

    GT40 side impact protection

It wasn't needed, correct. Two years later production ceased because suddenly their solution wasn't good enough as we just learned. Crushing the roof in a press has nothing to do with the discussed issue about side impact safety in post #8 - I don't think you have understood that, but don't...

    GT40 side impact protection

It does look nice, indeed. Not a component car though and therefore most likely very expensive!

    GT40 side impact protection

That is very interesting. The sills of the Ford GT chassis are very narrow, since there are no fuel tanks. Do you think the side impact protection of the Ford GT chassis is worse than that of the GT40 replicas? A first look at the Ford GT chassis images would suggest that.

    GT40 side impact protection

Hi Bill, thanks for the post. I was wondering if the situation is any different with the larger GT (GT-R) replica. I just found this image, roll cage looks great, in particular that roof member we have discussed...

    GT40 side impact protection

Hi Fran, The GT-R replica is really exciting and will hopefully drastically increase your market share in the component car industry. What is the reason why Ford decided to leave the roof members out that we have discussed in post #8? Here some images of the Ford GT chassis. Looks great...

    GT40 side impact protection

There is enough photographic material of past GT40 accidents that allow us to find answers as to how we can increase safety in future without a single additional crash test. Scaling-up the car by 20% is the next logical step to take in my point of view.

    GT40 side impact protection

Hi Bill, thanks for your reply. I think the 20% scaled-up wheelbase of 114" wouldn't be extraordinary. The wheelbase of the 2014 Dodge Challenger is 116", the wheelbase of the Ferrari FF is 118". The front and rear track of the GT40 is 57", the 20% scaled-up track would be 68" which is similar...

    GT40 side impact protection

Bill, thank you so much for this fantastic reply. The type of foam makes a lot of difference. Testing was done at 7 m/s which is about 25 km/h and they get 63g. At twice the speed (50 km/h) you have 4 times the energy. Assuming that the distance over which the deceleration occurs is roughly the...

    GT40 side impact protection

I am surprised to see the large number of conservative posts regarding safety for component cars on this forum. The attitude of some folks posting here is unbelievably degenerative. This is not the stuff that defines modern man, with all his hunger and desire for evolution and continuous...
