Audi 5000 diesel tranny

Hi guys. I did my homework and looked through the archived posts but couldn't find anything about the suitability of a diesel transaxle. Any help would be great. Cheers, Dave

Dave - that would be an 016 type 3U. You will find these are not common in North America, nor are the ratios that great - albeit they are better than types 5N or AAZ.

Be sure it's not an 012 box. Some diesels used them. If, in fact, you have an 016 3U you'll be much better off with the ratios.

Neal,

I think you are refering to an 013 gearbox. 012's came later; about '97 I believe, and are still being used today. There is also a type 089 gearbox, but I can't be sure they were ever used on 5000 Diesels.
