Wow,
What a predicament to be in. I can see how charges can add up fairly quickly. I did all my own body work, sanding, defect repair, priming, sealing. I then "rented" time in a paint booth at my local autobody shop at $40.00 an hour. I have about $2000 in booth time and materials and still have the doors, sills, and nostril to paint. I bet I'm up to about $4000-4500 before I'm done. I think Ron's estimate of time to get the car ready to paint is about right, but he and I both have RF kits. I think my job will be "show quality" and had I had the shop do all the work I would estimate the cost between $8000 - $10000. I would put your stripes on before you clear coat else you will have a ridge. We did not put a layer of clear between the base and the stripe. I did have my painter do the last layer of clear as that's the hardest to do and will show the most. Sanding and polishing are also tricky but these take the least amount of time. Good luck !
