Re: re GT40 Australia monthly barbecue -x7 GT40\'s attends

Greetings and best wishes for the New Year from GT40 Australia on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

During 2001 we hosted a barbecue lunch on the Saturday before the first Sunday each month for GT40 owners of completed cars, those building their cars and also potential future owners. These informal get-togethers provide a great opportunity for those building their GT40 to view and photograph both Factory built and owner built cars.

We have just held the January get-together when we had 7 DRB GT40's attend. We would have had over 10, but several owners are away on holidays. Middle of Sumner with temperatures in high 30's together with very high humidity. Just as well the DRB Airconditioning system works efficiently, providing icy cold air flow in the cabins.

Attached is a photo (see above) of the 7 DRB GT40's that turned up, together with the owners. The details of the cars from left to right are as follows:

Trevor Stevens - Black with Silver stripes, owner built. 347 cu in Ford Windsor, Alloy heads, 8 throttle body injection with MoTec ECU, 500 HP, Porsche G50-52 transaxle. Standing 1/4 mile 11.5 sec. Trevor has progressively developed his DRB GT40 into a real "Go & Show" car.

Chris Hatfield - Yellow with Red stripe, part owner - factory built, 289 cu in Ford Windsor, 600 Holley, electronic distributor, 240 HP (on a good day according to Chris), Porsche G50 transaxle. Most successful GT40 racing in Queensland, winning the Marque Sportscar Championship for the last 2 years. Chris competes in competition events most weekends and drives his DRB GT40 to the extent that he has completed 36,000 km in less than 2 years.

Kevin Raleigh - Green with yellow stripe (Bib Stillwell's GT40 colours), owner built, 4.6 litre Modular Ford single throttle body EFI motor, Porsche G50 transaxle. Kevin's DRB GT40 has only travelled a few thousand km's since it was completed 3 years ago. Kevin does not have many opportunities to drive his GT40 as he spends most of his time cruising around the World on Ocean Liners.

Don Hughes - Galaxy Mica Blue with Silver stripes and Orange pin striping. (Golf McLaren colours) Factory built car. 302 cu in Ford Windsor motor with 600 Holley, Performer manifold and electronic distributor. Porsche G50 transaxle and the first DRB GT40 with the super wide rear bodywork with 17" diam x 12" wide rear wheels. The car has been registered for 2 months and Don has not been seen out of the drivers seat.

Jim Struck - Candy-Apple Blue - owner built, 302 cu in Ford Windsor, 600 Holley, Edelbrock Performer manifold, electronic distributor, Porsche G50 transaxle. 4 1/2 years of painstaking work has resulted in debatably the best finished GT in the Country. From the Aluminium Ceramic coated components everywhere in the engine bay to the Connolly cowhide trimmed cabin this car has been featured in many Magazine articles and has won Top Car awards in every show entered since being completed early in 2001.

Tim Triton - Golf Blue / Orange, Factory built 1996, 302 cu in Ford Windsor, Alloy heads, 8 throttle body injection, Autronic ECU, 500 HP motor, Porsche G50 transaxle. 11.3 sec 1/4 mile. The first DRB GT40 built, has now travelled over 50,000 trouble free km's. Tim competes successfully in circuit racing, Hillclimbs and speed events.

Duane Hart - Ferarri 355 Red - Factory built, 302 cu in Ford Windsor, 600 Holley, Performer manifold, Mallory distributor, 250 HP. Duane is the Gymkhana Champion in his blood red DRB GT40 and is now competing in Circuit racing and Hillclimbs .

Best regards

Great to see such a get together happening here in aus, just a pitty it is on the opposite side of the country.

Very interesting reading some of the spec's on the cars, but was wondering how the emmisions and licensing is handled as it appears that most of the cars are set up with a carbie. comments would be grateful as I am presently sorting what EFI setup to go with to meet emmissions / licensing requirements.

Cheers
