Rep Power: 30 | Classic &Sportscar Uk-page 13-GT111 found in London received this morning my copy, so I copy here what I am currently reading on page 13:
LOST GT40 UNEARTHED DURING OLYMPIC DIG
a very historic, early GT40 which has long been listed as scrapped by FAV was discovered in a London Lock up during demolition work for the london olympic games. Last summer the original tub was saved, and taken to GT40 specialist Andy Newell at Glescoe Motorsport, where it was examinated by specialist including model guru ronnie spain.
"I was sceptical first but nearly collapsed when i saw it" said Spain.
"there is no question at all that GT/111 is an absolutely original GT roadster chassis".
Legend has it that after the crashed car returned from targa Florio it was ordered to be scrapped.
Once stripped of usable parts, the tub was cut in two across the cockpit. The scrap man was tipped off by FAV workers, and the remains were stashed away until last year.
The restoration is going well for new owner philip walker, with a Goodwood revival debut possible.
"we had a coice of which way to restore it," said Walker.
It first appeared at le manstest day as a white closed car with Borrani wires, but reappeared on the Targa as Lyndon green roadster riding on Halybrands to satisfly sponsor Goodyear. We've gone for the latter, and have now lcoated an original body for its sister car 112"

Rep Power: 8 | Re: Classic &Sportscar Uk-page 13-GT111 found in London I went and looked carefully in my shed, but unfortunately couldn't find any genuine 40 tubs. Wouldn't it be a fantastic discovery? Only a few weeks ago this forum was saying that the discovery of any more barn finds or "lost" 40's was virtually impossible now.
This is good news, and also adds to the genuine 40's in the world (grossly outnumbered by the replicas).

Rep Power: 58 | Re: Classic &Sportscar Uk-page 13-GT111 found in London Who owns GT111? Isn't the ownership of that car known publically? I'm sure he is aware of the issue by now, the car was unearthed last year and restoration is already in progress according to the article excerpt.

Rep Power: 2 | Re: Classic &Sportscar Uk-page 13-GT111 found in London I have been scanning some old slides I have, in particular the 1000km race in 1965 at Nurburgring which I attended. Unfortunately I was not a camera buff
back then but did enjoy the races with my buddies and happened to drag along a camera for that race. I read this thread on Gt/111 and found the sister car that I photographed GT/112 roadster driven by Richard Attwood and John Whitmore. The quality isnt the best but enjoy. |

If my memory is correct (this was an offhand conversation five years ago), Guy told me that it was purported to be an original, but he knew it wasn't--for starters it had a 351 Windsor. He said he thought it was based on a Safir tub.

I am very interested to see your pictures here... In fact i know (very well) the car you're talking about... The supposed chassis #111 because it is owned by someone very close to me. I also know Guy Trigaux and his son Gregory who had, and is still, sometimes co-driving the car in endurance races with the actual owner and I... We just drove it on the new Francorchamps circuit two days ago for tests and I am very curious to check these pictures you took at the time... I can also give u folks more informations about the car (in its actual state)... but as everyone here, we stil have "shadow zones" (lets say "lack of information") about his true history... |
