Original Wheels?

Can someone help here. I note from Ronnie Spain's book, chassis P/1042 begun life with "FAV wheels". What are these? Are they the same as the five spoke F3L alloy wheels, or is it another name for the six spoke magnesium BRMs I've already got. Contemporary pictures of the better known 1042 show six spokers???? Your help and comments always appreciated.. Andrew

I suspect Spain is referencing the Borrani wire wheels which most FAV cars were equipped with originally. Shelby was the first to substitute pin-drive Halibrands (which are similar to, but distinctly different from the various Cobra Halibrand wheels). It seems that the six-spoke BRM wheels didn't make the scene until 1967 or so, and seemingly many competition cars were retrofitted with them. Most genuine GT40s racing in Europe wear them now.

Of the three, I vastly prefer the Halibrand option...but they all have their pluses and minuses.
