2002 GT40

President of the Ford division of Ford Motor company was just on CNBC. He confirms that the new GT40 protypes seen at both Detriot and Chicago auto shows recently are in fact going to production NOW.

They will be in dealerships next year to coincide with the 100th anniv of Ford.

No mention on price. Guessing sticker around that 100k mark that everyone is talking about. No word on production numbers either.

The new GT40 is in direct competion with
the Z06 and the vipers. If Ford goes too
overboard on the pricing then they won't
sell as many.I really don't think
they look at the replica market for pricing.
As a production built car I think that's where they decide as to what its competion is. Then again they may decide to try for a piece of the market held by some of the Ferrari's, Aston Martin, jags etc. I love
those type of cars but they are wayyyy out
of my price range.

Hi all

I am not shure if I want to laugh or cry. I love the GT40 because of it’s history and uniqueness and I like to be different in a crowd. I like the idea that I built my car and it took a lot of time and effort to build it.

On the other hand I would love to own the new machine but would feel guilty at
betraying the old marque. Its almost like having a one night stand but knowing that
you would never leave your wife, and afterwards carrying the guilt of that adultery.

I think that the value of replica GT40’s would not be affected at all in fact they would probably benefit as lots of posers would become aware of the marque and try to get onto the band wagon.

However the high price’s that the originals command could be decimated except for those with an outstanding racing pedigree.

As Ford own Jaguar I could see the new 2003 GT40 being priced somewhere in that XK 8
price bracket around $75000 in the USA and about £59000 in the UK.

Chris
PS Do I commit adultery? (metaphorically speaking)

If Ford builds it who sells and services. Most Ford dealers can't keep an Escort running, and the gouging on the "new" T-Bird would make a Honda dealer blush.

Maybe Jaguar?
