Audi 012 Vs 01E

That's probably the best bet of the Audi V8's, same base as the ABZ so the simpler aftermarket ecu's should work but plenty of power. Still not cheap and you're going to need that aftermarket ECU.

I think anything after 1996 or so you'll suffer with immobilisers built into the ECU, some cars you may manage by using the original key (technically the transponder inside it), others will need the instruments and everything else.

Everything I have read shows that the Coyote was built to handle at least 650HP with most claiming 750HP to be the upper safe limit.

The Roadrunner can handle more than that of course.

Should have also mentioned the new Aluminator (beefed up Coyote available in two styles, one set up for normally aspirated and the other for super/turbo charged applications).

Among a few other things, it has forged pistons and forged H beam connecting rods, and better valve springs.
 
I found a diy setup called VEMS that seemed to be somewhat compatible with the Audi V-8 but not much else... I was kind of bummed I couldn't find a megasquirt article though.

I looked in to those Ford motors and my first reaction was "holy crap thats expensive" but when I looked into building up a legacy block (302, 351, etc) the costs seemed pretty close to equal for equivalent horsepower potential... Not a bad idea, but I'll have to see if the wife can UP my allowance first :)
 
The 012 is rubbish with anything of 300 ft/lbs. With gear widths less than 3/8 of an inch they are very light duty (minimum gear width on the 01E is 2nd gear and it is 7/8 of an inch wide with first 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th having a tooth width of 26mm-30mm.

The 01E is not available in any scrap yard in North America, and if you find one used plan on spending a tidy sum getting it back into condition, as the vast majority taken out of service are due to bad pinion bearings and they have other issues as well. So one with a diff noise, will set you back about $300.00 in parts (for the bearing) plus at least 3 hours shop time for install.
